“Trace, come on in.” I was on my feet and at the gate when it opened. “Thanks for coming all the way here just to bring this to me.”

“It’s my job, sir,” he said, the word sir sounding so good in my ears. What would it sound like with him bent over the spanking bench? “Anything else?”

“What, oh no. That is, unless you have a few minutes to join me in a cold drink? It’s still pretty warm out there, and I have some questions about the resort.”

He frowned then shrugged. “I can stay long enough for a bottle of water. We’re still pretty busy, but I am supposed to take care of the needs of the guests.”

For a second, my heart stopped. Needs? Stop that, right now. Just because he works here doesn’t mean he’s supposed to do anything like your brain is conjuring up as part of his pay. Talon would never have anything to do with that.

The omega was watching me with such intensity, I had to hope he couldn’t read my mind. “Great. Come sit down and I’ll get you a water.”

When we were both situated on the loungers, I realized my dinner on the low table between us was getting cold. That seemed pointless, and I couldn’t just eat while he had nothing, so I cut the burger in half with the hand steak knife that came with it for some reason. “Here. Share with me.”

“Oh no, I—”

“Have you had dinner?”

“No.”

“I hate to eat alone. Do you like mustard?”

“Yes, please.” He reluctantly agreed, both to sharing and, with less reluctance to adding mustard. And by the time the last fry disappeared, he’d filled me in on all his favorite parts of the resort. Some he’d covered earlier, but there were, it seemed, places where few guests went but all the staff really liked. “There’s a pool hardly anyone even knows about. It’s set way aside in a natural area and surrounded by all kinds of rocks…”

“I’d love it if you could show me sometime.”

“Okay. Maybe when I’m off?” His job was to help out the guests, so maybe he liked me a little? I would have to wait and see.

“So, can you tell me about the club? I’m thinking of checking it out tomorrow night.”

He’d been lying back on the lounger, sipping water, but at this he sat up straight, cheeks reddening. “I-I haven’t worked in there, so I’ve only gotten a glimpse, but I hear it’s nice.”

Nice. Interesting way of putting it.

Chapter Six

Trace

“I’ve never worked the club floor before,” I said. Eddie stood next to me, but our supervisor, wasn’t asking him to do this job, only me.

“I know that, but we need everyone to pitch in. We had some waiters get sick tonight, and I need one more person to fill in. You’ve been doing great work with the villas, and I guarantee the tips in the club are worth it. It’s just delivering drinks and flirting with some alphas if you’re so inclined.”

I let out a long sigh. “Okay. Yeah. Okay. I need a uniform.”

Eddie smiled at me. I wasn’t sure if he was glad it was me or offering support. Probably support.

“Follow me.”

I usually wore a polo with the resort logo and my name embroidered on it along with the standard pants or shorts, depending on the season. Everything was uniform down to our socks. But when in the club, staff wore “appropriate” attire. I’d seen some of the other omegas as they emerged from a shift there. They wore all black. Leather pants. Sexy as hell, but nothing I’d ever done.

Swimming in the villa pools was the most I’d explored in terms of risqué.

Less than an hour later, I was in the lion’s den. Serving drinks was the same inside and outside the club but the air, the atmosphere was so different. Thick with passion and lust and need, it nearly choked me.

But it was dark. Sure, lights flickered along the walls and over the stations, and the bass was booming but the darkness and shadow gave me some camouflage. If those mafia people were here, and they were the ones that wanted me, then there was not much of a chance they would be able to ID me in this inky atmosphere.

“Hey, Trace.”

I recognize the voice. My coworker, Devin. A jack of all trades. I jumped in response. Damn it. The whisper of mafia men here had me on edge. “Good evening. Want to show me the ropes?”
