“Come closer.”
She obliged, scooting up until she could rest her head on my shoulder. I rolled her towards me, my arms tight around her as I tried to process what had just happened.
“Should I go?” she mumbled sleepily a few minutes later.
I frowned. “What? Go where?”
“I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to sleep over,” she said, with a rare show of vulnerability. My little princess was normally quite self-assured, but as she tilted her head to look at me I could see that my answer mattered to her more than she probably wanted it to.
“Stay here with me,” I ordered, my arm tightening around her. “Please.”
She burrowed against me with a sigh, and within minutes her breathing changed, letting me know that she’d fallen asleep. Sleep eluded me for a long while. I stared up in the darkness, enjoying the feeling of a warm naked body next to mine and wondering how I’d recover when it was no longer there.
Eventually I fell asleep, waking up to the feeling of Genny trying to roll out from under my arm.
“Where you going?” I mumbled sleepily.
“I’ve got to use the restroom,” she said.
I started to ask if she was coming back, but I knew instinctively she wouldn’t be. It was already morning and I knew she was an early riser. But was it that? Or did she just want to get away?
I hated that I was feeling insecure. Usually I was the one in control in any relationship. I carefully guarded my emotions, never letting anyone get close enough to hurt me. At least that’s what several of my exes had said. I didn’t know why I was like that. I’d had a good childhood, and my previous relationships had been okay. No great shakes, but then again, no big heartbreaks either. Yet I always felt like I needed to protect myself.
The toilet flushed, then I heard the shower turn on. As tempted as I was to join Genny, I wasn’t sure if that would be welcome. Instead I pulled on some clothes and headed into the kitchen to make some coffee.
“Mm, coffee.”
Genny appeared in the kitchen a little while later, her hair slicked back from the shower. She gave me a big smile, and that pinching feeling in my chest that was there when I woke up suddenly eased.
“Thanks for last night.”
She stepped closer, pressing a quick kiss to my cheek. I snaked my arm around her waist, pulling her closer. She relaxed against me, still smiling as she looked up at me.
“That was one of the hottest nights of my life,” I said solemnly.
There was more I wanted to say. That I loved her. That I wanted her to stay with me forever. But I knew what this was going in. There was no reason to make things awkward.
“Same.”
Genny popped up on her tiptoes, dropping her hands on my shoulders so she could kiss me properly. It was fast but sweet, enough to tell me that I wasn’t the only one who wanted more.
When she pulled away to get a cup of coffee I felt momentarily bereft.
“Do you work today?” she asked.
“No, we don’t have any jobs until Friday. I have some billing to do, but I’ll do that from here.”
“Great. I have a proposal then.”
I raised my eyebrows in question.
“You let me stay here for a few more days, and I’ll give you more orgasms.”
“I’m not opposed to that, but you know you’re going to have to deal with your family eventually, right?”
I didn’t understand what was going on with Genny and her family. They seemed to get along well from what she said, and while it was rude of her parents to try to railroad her into an engagement, I had the sense if she’d just talked it out she could have gotten them to back off.
“Yeah. I know this isn’t real life, us holed up in your house like this, but I know that as soon as I leave here, I’ll have to deal with my job and my parents and princess shit and… well, I’d just like to have more time with you.”
