I sucked my teeth.
“Let me go.”
“Nawl.”
“Kyrie.”
“What?”
I stopped fighting him and went limp against his chest. His grip loosened. Exactly what I wanted.
Before he realized what I was doing, I reached up and swiped my finger across his cheek.
Kyrie froze, and my eyes widened.
A streak of paint ran right across his face. I pressed my lips together, trying my hardest not to laugh. His eyes narrowed slowly.
“Sianni.”
That was all it took. I burst out laughing.
“You think that shit funny?”
“Yes!”
“Aight. Bet.”
The way he said it had me trying to get away, but I barely made it two steps before his arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me right back.
“Kyrie!” I screamed through my laughter. “Leave me alone!”
“Nawl. You wanted to play.”
“You started it!”
“And I’m finna finish it.”
“Don’t put no more paint on me!”
He laughed as I tried to wiggle free, but instead of reaching for the paint, he turned me around until I was facing him.
I was still laughing when his lips came down on mine. The kiss shut me right the hell up.
My hands settled against his chest as his arm stayed wrapped around my waist. For a few seconds, neither of us moved away. The kiss wasn’t rushed or leading anywhere. It was just us, standing in the middle of my art room with paint on both our faces and two half-finished canvases behind us.
When he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against mine.
“You happy?”
The question caught me off guard. My smile faded slightly as I looked into his eyes.
“Yeah.”
“For real?”
I nodded. “For real.”
His thumb brushed against my side. “Good.”
