“And there he goes.”
“What?”
“I was wondering how long the sweet moment was gonna last.”
“I'm still being sweet.”
“Nawl, you're being full of yourself.”
“Same shit.”
She laughed, shaking her head.
My hand moved from her waist and settled against her stomach.
“Lil' one gon’ get to see Daddy play.”
Something about saying that shit out loud made me smile.
Sianni looked down at my hand before covering it with hers.
“Yeah,” she said softly. “They are.”
Damn.
A few months ago, I didn't know what the fuck my future looked like.
Now, I had my wife sitting in my lap, my baby growing inside her, and football waiting for me again.
Life had damn near taken everything from me.
Now it felt like I was getting it all back.
The stadium was loud as hell. I stood near the front of the family section, looking down at the field as the Vipers warmed up. Players were everywhere, but I was only looking for one.
Number twenty-one.
My husband.
As soon as I spotted Kyrie jogging onto the field with the rest of his teammates, a smile spread across my face.
“Look at his big ass.”
Even from where I was standing, I could tell he was feeling himself. He had that little bounce in his step, smiling and talking shit with his teammates like his ass hadn’t been gone for months.
Yeah.
Kyrie Maddox was back.
And after everything he had gone through to get here, I was happy as hell for him.
The weeks after he got cleared for practice hadn’t been easy. His ass complained about every restriction they gave him, questioned damn near everything the medical staff told him, and came home irritated more than once because they wouldn’t let him do as much as he thought he could.
But, surprisingly, his hardheaded ass listened.
He did what he was supposed to do, kept going to rehab, and slowly, they started letting him do more.
Until finally, he got the news he had been waiting for.
