Drayla forced one back.
“We good. Thank you.”
The second the waitress walked away, neither of us touched our food.
“You ain’t eatin’?” Drayla asked softly.
I looked down at my plate, but the thought of putting anything in my mouth made my stomach turn.
“I… I can’t.”
She slid my phone back across the table.
“Who would’ve even known you were buying a pregnancy test?”
My eyes locked on hers.
“I don’t know.”
“No, think.”
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to think back to everything that had happened the day before.
“The store…” I whispered.
“So how the fuck do they get pictures of all three?”
Silence settled between us. Then, it hit me. I slowly lifted my head.
“Somebody’s been following me.”
The words barely left my mouth when my phone started vibrating again. This time, it was Kyrie. His picture lit up my screen, and Drayla looked from the phone to me.
“You better answer.”
I nodded, swiped across the screen, and lifted the phone to my ear.
“Hello?”
“Where you at?”
No hello and no baby. Just four cold words that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
“At the restaurant with Drayla.”
“You still there?”
“Yes.”
“Good, don’t leave.”
“Kyrie—”
“I said don’t leave.”
His voice stayed low and calm.
“I got security on the way, even though they were supposed to already be with you.”
