“I swear on everything I love, Sianni… it wasn’t me.”
I looked over at Kyrie, and he held his hand out.
“Let me talk to him.”
I handed him the phone, and he put it on speaker.
“Amani.”
“Kyrie.”
“If you know something―”
“I don’t.”
“If you lying to me, I’ma find out.”
Silence spilled over.
“And when I do…” Kyrie’s voice never rose above a calm, steady tone. “…pray somebody else gets to you before I do.”
The line stayed quiet for a while.
“I ain’t got shit to do with this,” Amani replied.
Kyrie ended the call before another word. He handed me the phone before looking toward Drayla.
“The girls’ trip is over.”
Drayla let out a frustrated breath.
“Damn, Kyrie. We ain’t even been here a full day.”
“And that’s long enough.” He stood, and his attention shifted back to me. “Come on.”
I looked down at my untouched food before grabbing my purse. The second I stood, both security guards moved into position.
Kyrie rested his hand against the small of my back, guiding me toward the exit. The whispers started all over again.
More phones, more stares, and more people trying to figure out what was going on. But Kyrie didn’t give a damn, and neither did I. I just wanted to go home.
When we got back to the resort, Drayla and I said our goodbyes before Kyrie followed me to my room. The second we stepped inside, he shut the door behind us. I dropped my bag onto the bed and sat down beside it, staring at the floor while my mind ran a hundred miles an hour.
None of this was supposed to happen.
I already knew the second everything came to light, it was going to come with a lotta bullshit attached to it.
A shaky breath left my lips, and before I could stop them, tears blurred my vision. They rolled down my cheeks one after another. Kyrie had been pacing the room, but the moment he noticed me crying, he stopped in his tracks and came straight over. The mattress dipped beneath his weight as he sat beside me, his hand sliding up and down my back.
“Bae… you okay?” he asked, his voice a whole lot softer than it usually was.
I nodded even though I didn’t feel okay. “Yeah, I’m good.” My voice cracked. I wiped at my face with the back of my hand and let out a tired sigh. “I just… I wasn’t expecting any of this.”
He wrapped an arm around my shoulder and pulled me against his chest, pressing a kiss to the top of my head.
“Baby girl, welcome to my world,” he muttered. “Media always got a nigga under a damn microscope.”
His jaw flexed, and I could feel his body tense beneath me.
