“Yeah, when I was a kid. I didn’t know how having kids even happened. I didn’t get the birds and the bees talk like you probably did. Please don't hold the things like that against me.”
“I'm not, I'm just making a point.” It seemed like a simple question. One that should be easy to answer without pushback, but I know Graham was sensitive to it, given my insecurity about everyone being married off and parents here. Maybe I shouldn't have been insecure, but I just was.
Graham reached over to take my hand at his.
“Jacqueline, when I'm with you, I'm not worried about my past or future. I'm only living in the now. So, please just stay in the moment with me. That's not too much to ask, is it?”
“No.”
“Jaq, I love you. Please don't make a fight over things we can't control—”
“I wasn't trying to, just pointing out observations. Next time, I'll keep them to myself,” I dismissed.
“I didn't mean it like that, baby. I don't want you to not speak your mind, okay? I just want to enjoy my time while we're here. I want to go back to New York with no regrets.”
“Okay, Graham, I'm sorry.” I took his hand and kissed his palm, soothing my anxiety. It wasn't a fight, just a time where we just didn't see eye to eye. But I didn't want to be the cause of why he wasn't enjoying his time, so for the rest of the trip, I was going to keep my opinions to myself.
CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
Graham
We got back in late, choosing to spend a few hours with my dad, while Jaq lost the battle to sleep. I sang to him for a while, showed him all the pics we took, which seemed to brighten his mood, noting how stunning the ladies looked.
I promised him I'd keep the tradition going every chance I came back home, as well as keeping my word it wouldn't take another eight years to return. I helped the night nurse with lifting and turning him, and even changing and cleaning his bed pan, but he was exhausted and in so much pain, we both agreed that he should try to get some rest. Jaq and I had taken a few selfies of our own, and it brought some comfort to know they'd given him a little joy.
In his own words, he liked his son better when he was happy. It was so hard seeing him like this. Despite all our past arguments, all the distance I'd put between us, my dad was still my dad. My hero. The person who taught me how to shave and drive and have manners. To have love in my heritage, and pride in my culture. He was the one who encouraged me to be who I was authentically, even if that person was different from the path he set out for me. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't know love as fierce. It was one of the reasons I wanted to see the world, because I wanted to love everything in it.
I should have come back sooner. I should have been there. Now fate was punishing me by taking my dad away. There I go letting my mind wander off with those intrusive thoughts. Cancer didn't discriminate; it could have been anyone. I needed to focus on how his face lit up when he saw how pretty Jaq looked. Or our shared laughter on how I convinced my American girlfriend to try a Marmite and chip sandwich, and she didn't hate it. After taking a shower, I headed back to bed. Jaq sleepily turned in her sleep towards me as I admired her bare face, caressing her cheek.
“Mmm…it's almost three. Are you just now coming to bed?” she yawned.
“Mmmhmm.” I nuzzled her nose, her sleepy siren eyes finding mine.
“Is everything okay with your dad?” I nodded.
“Yeah, Jaq. Everything's fine,” I assured, leaning in to kiss her neck and pulling her tank top down her shoulder. Her breasts were bare, her nipples hardening at the presence of my lips as she released a light moan.
“Wait, what's happening right now?” she asked. My lips switching between each of her breasts in wanton need of her moans. Suddenly she was wide awake, as my lips traced on their way back to her neck, my fingers slipping inside her panties to reveal her pussy already slick with arousal.
“I want to make love to you. I need you so much right now.” Her excessive panting and light moans made me certain she wanted this too, but taking my face into her hands, she urged me to stop.
“Wait, Graham, you're getting me too worked up right now. Give me some time to put some clothes on so we can take a ride.” But I couldn't wait that long. I needed her now.
“No, baby. Right here. I don't want to take another long drive just to fuck you. Let's stay here,” taking her nipple into my mouth again, only for her to readjust my face to meet hers.
“Graham, I want to be respectful being a guest in your family's home.” Pressing my lips to hers, we shared a deep kiss. One that left her heart pounding and breathless.
“And I just want to be inside you. I'll be quiet, I promise,” I smiled, as she returned the gesture.
“Okay, well, what if I can't be?” Kiss.
“I'm not asking you to.” Another kiss.
“Oh my god, Graham, you're kind of sexy when you're desperate…”
“And you're just sexy,” I cooed, finally pulling her out of her top and taking her breasts into my hand, taking turns giving each one of them attention.
“You might just be the devil reincarnated,” she laughed.
