I rocked her long and hard as she tossed her head back and forth, fissures starting to develop in my block wall of control.

Her soft murmurs finally turned into moans of ecstasy and as her back arched again and her fingernails dug deep into my skin, she finally released. There was nothing more beautiful than to see a woman orgasm.

I didn’t stop even as I slowed even more, allowing her to enjoy the moment of ecstasy. I could honestly watch her for hours, her reactions raw and honest. An awakening and all because she’d placed her trust in me.

When she lolled her head to the side, I lowered my face, pressing kisses against her forehead. She slowly shifted her chin, peering up at me in a such a way that drove a knife into my heart. The trust was almost too much to bear. But the side of her that had attracted me in the first place reappeared. She squeezed her muscles against my throbbing dick and that was it.

This time as I fucked her, almost all the tenderness was gone. Impressive that she didn’t seem to care, her mouth twisting as she clung to me. What she was doing was driving me crazy and she knew it.

My body couldn’t take much more, a rush of need pushing my body into surrendering. Her lips formed the perfect O as I erupted, still rocking her as the ache slowly faded, satisfaction a sweet release.

After we both took several scattered breaths, I eased beside her, pulling her into my arms. The wind was the only sound, a strange howl a reminder we were far removed from where she’d felt safe.

Sweet seconds turned into minutes, the comfort of having her in my arms all that mattered.

With my arms wrapped around her, Star’s breathing became normal. She brushed her thumb across my skin, taking several deep breaths. “I thought you’d been killed earlier today.”

“You mean with the thunderbird?”

“Yes.”

“You were right. They are loud and it’s easy to know when they’re coming. However, that creature would have eventually taken you.”

“You underestimate my abilities.”

“That’s not the point, Star. You need to stop acting as if you can handle every dangerous situation yourself. There were a half dozen wolves who got away. The thunderbirds using them to attract prey, finishing what they don’t eat. They were hiding all around you, ready to surge.”

She stiffened in my arms. “I didn’t know that.”

“Apparently. Maybe you need a reminder that you’re not the one programmed to kill. I am.”

“Point taken. I’ve learned my lesson.”

I took a deep breath, wondering if she’d truly learned her lesson. Maybe I should reinforce the thought.

When I moved away from her, she moaned. “Where are you going?”

“Nowhere. Just sitting up. What we will eventually face is very dangerous.”

“Finding Eden?”

“Getting there will entail treachery, but I’m talking about what I suspect is our destiny. We will be tested. At least according to Peter.”

She rolled over, darting her eyes back and forth. “Tested. That we can handle. You don’t care about finding Eden.”

“It’s not that I don’t hope for a glimpse into a world that no longer exists, hopeful that there’s some a beautiful location where people and animals can thrive. However, my needs are more personal. I’ve been advised I can’t take on the king alone.”

Her expression shifted away from the enjoyment of passion back to reality. “Because you already tried assassinating the king.”

“Which one of my men told you?”

“Wrath. He cares about you. About who and what you are or will be.”

“If you believe in the prophecy.”

“Maybe the real test is what we learn to believe and accept.”

I laughed. “Maybe you’re right. We find Eden.”
