“The day you moved home from college.”

“Why?”

I leaned back on my palms. “Because it was the first time you didn’t look like yourself. You had this sexy confidence that made me want to grab you and claim you, even though I wasn’t allowed to.”

“Maybe you should have.”

“There was another time,” I admitted, questioning if I should let out this truth.

Paige furrowed her brow with a confused look.

“Your senior year of college, you called me after a party in tears.”

“I remember that,” she whispered. “I drank too much and got rejected by a guy. I wanted you to pick me up.”

I nodded. “I got in the car and drove to you.”

She gasped. “You did what?”

“I drove all night and parked outside your dorm at six in the morning. I was going to call you around nine and surprise you with roses, but about an hour later, you walked up to your building holding hands with another guy…wearing his shirt.”

“Oh my god.” She brought her hand to her mouth. “You drove all night to come to my rescue?”

I nodded again. “It was stupid. I turned around and drove home. You had a whole life and we were barely talking. You called me when you were drunk and I was stupid to think you needed saving.”

Paige crawled into my lap and wrapped her arms around my neck.

“It wasn’t stupid. Thank you for always coming to my rescue,” she whispered before kissing me. Her tongue delved into my mouth immediately as my palms slid up her back.

As I sat there with the girl of my dreams in my arms, I had to hold back from saying the three words I almost said to her in front of her dorm building five years ago.

I love you.

I’VE NEVER BEEN MORE GRATEFUL THAT OUR FAMILY DRINKS WAY TOO MUCH

PAIGE

This had been a weird weekend. Yesterday felt like it was three days long between the conversation with my mom and the date Cash planned. We stayed at the lake for hours just talking and laughing. It was nice to have some time alone for just us.

Away from the chaos.

Away from the lies.

“Knock, knock,” Cash said as he appeared in the doorway of my office.

“Hey, you.” I smiled up at him. “What are you doing here?”

Cash pushed off the door frame and sauntered over to my desk. He stood behind me and leaned down to place a kiss on my head.

“I should be asking you that question.”

“I was just uploading some of the pictures I’ve taken so far.”

Cash encased me, leaning his palms on the desk as I clicked through the photos. There were candids of Cash riding, him getting ready at the gate, him surrounded by people, him accepting awards. If you didn’t know that this was my job, I would have looked like an obsessed stalker.

“These are amazing, Pip, but I think you need to be featured in a few once we go back out there.”
