I went to right my nest once again, but the scent of her body lingered. Would my Carlota notice when I brought her here?

I slapped a fur hard enough that the scent should have dissipated, but it only seemed to grow stronger.

“Ah, since you woke me up from a good sleep, would you happen to have anything to eat?”

I straightened, turning to find the human staring expectantly at me.

“Absolutely not,” I growled.

Was she doing this purposefully? Was she attempting to push me further and further away from Carlota so that she could have me to herself? Was every move a ploy to entrap me and make me her husband?

Did this feral little creature wish to be my wife?

“Why not? I’m hungry, and I don’t see a refrigerator in here. What am I supposed to eat?”

“You are supposed to endure.”

I would not have her for a wife.

I refused.

She groaned. “Look, I don’t like relying on you either, but I’m hungry. I left without eating and I have a high metabolism. If I don’t get something in my system soon, I’ll faint.”

“I do not know what any of that means.”

“It means feed me, or I’m gonna get hangry.”

I lifted a stone brow and bared my teeth. “I do not know that word.”

“It’s the way you act.”

“I do not understand.”

“It means I become an asshole if I don’t eat.”

“How can you turn into a hole from which excrement releases? I do not understand.”

“Jesus Christ.”

“I do not know him, either.”

Lucero threw her hands up in the air. “I need to be fed!”

“No. Endure until my wings heal, and when I take you back to your world, you may gorge until you are content.”

She leaned back, running her palms against her stomach. “I don’t think I can last that loooong.”

Irritation made my wings flare, and I battled with the instinct in me that demanded I keep her plump and in my embrace. “Then try!”

Her eyes snapped open and she glared at me. “Don’t piss me off, Qanek.”

“I will not give you sustenance.”

“Fine! Asshole.”

“I am not a hole for excrement.”

“Boy, bye.” She turned away from me, resting her elbows on her knees as she leaned close towards the fire.
