“Did you just—”
“Come in my pants?” I pant. “Yep.”
“Oh.”
I pull away to look at her. My hands are braced on either side of her body, our noses just an inch apart, our gazes dazed as we breathe each other in.
She smiles. And it’s this shy little expression that is both sexy and endearing at once. I feel the force of it like an explosion in my chest. A warmth that spreads from my heart and cascades through my bloodstream until even my fingers and toes are tingling.
It feels like my heart is on fire, but it doesn’t hurt. It…glows.
It’s terrifying.
Eden must read the change in me, because she asks, “Are you okay?”
“What?” I clear my throat. “Yeah. Yes. I’m fine.”
It’s the first time I’ve lied to her.
I’m not fine. My heart doesn’t feel normal, and I’m so lightheaded I think I might pass out.
She swallows, pulling up the sleeves of her dress to cover her breasts. Under any other circumstance, I’d consider it a travesty, but I’m so concerned for my health that all I can think about is how much I need to get out of here and call Dr. Sharma. She’ll know what to do.
Eden gently pushes me away and climbs down from the washer. I watch her do it, knowing I should help, but I’m frozen.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” She frowns at my hand that’s rubbing my chest over and over, as if the motion will make the feeling go away.
It doesn’t.
I plaster on a smile. “I’m great. Never been better.”
“Mr. Wolfe?” At the sound of Imani’s voice, I launch away from Eden like I’m scared of being caught. “I’m sorry to rush you, but I have another showing in twenty minutes.”
Eden frowns. The sight of it sends another pang through my heart, and my knees almost buckle.
I should reassure her, should hold her hand or something. Give her a hug. Hell, even a pat on the back would be better than whatever the fuck I’m doing right now. But I don’t. I can’t. Panic has sunk its claws into my head and rendered me useless.
“We should go,” Eden whispers, taking a wide berth around me to open the door with shiny eyes.
It fucking guts me.
“Yeah,” I choke. “Okay.”
I follow her out the door and down the stairs, trailing behind her with my tail between my legs. I cross my hands over my crotch to hide the cum stain at the sight of Imani waiting for us at the bottom.
Her forehead creases at the sight of our disheveled appearances, narrowing her eyes at my hair that now tumbles in a mess around my shoulders, then to Eden’s, which doesn’t fare any better than mine. She looks like she was mauled by a bear.
“Loved the house,” I tell Imani. “I’ll be putting in an offer this evening.”
She nods, ignoring the state of us both like a true professional, and holds her hand out for me to shake. I don’t take it. Eden’s wide-eyed gaze falls to my fingers, and despite the crushing weight on my chest that is growing more and more unbearable by the second, I almost laugh.
“The asking price is seven and a half million,” Imani says, lowering her arm and leading us outside. “I’d recommend offering as close to that as possible if you want to avoid the house going to market.”
“I’ll offer eight.”
Eden gasps.
Imani smiles wide, red lips pulling over clean white teeth. “Well, I can’t imagine they’ll turn that down. I’ll give you a call tonight to get everything sorted, and then we’ll get the ball rolling.”
