Nodding, she pursed her lips but didn’t say anything else. I could feel her irritation as if it were misty fog hovering around us. Needing to bring the vibe back up, I changed the subject.

“Do you use social media?”

Her frown said duh, bitch as she nodded emphatically.

“Way too much. I’m on Instagram so much that I have to set a time limit on my phone that locks the app after so many hours.”

“Damn,” I drawled. “It’s that bad?”

“Worse,” she admitted, hanging her head in shame. “I’m constantly telling the timer to give me fifteen more minutes.”

“I’m not judging you,” I announced, holding my hands in the air. People like her were the reason I was able to build a platform on that app. “What kind of accounts do you follow?” I was indirectly inquiring if she knew about my presence on those apps. So far, it didn’t seem like she did.

“Foodie stuff. The self-taught home chefs, professionals, restaurants, bartenders.”

“Ah, okay. I follow that kind of stuff too. I also post cooking videos and recipe posts every now and then.”

Her brows rose. “Cooking videos? Oh, you’re kind of fancy, huh?”

Folding my arms on top of the table, I leaned forward, my eyes on hers. “A little bit.”

Narrowing her eyes, she studied me for a moment before reaching into her bag and pulling out her phone. “What’s your handle?”

I rattled it off.

“On which platform?”

“All of them.”

She dipped her head. I watched as her thumbs flew across the screen of her device before her brows shot up again. When she lifted her head, her eyes were wide with surprise.

“Why do you have two hundred and fifty thousand follows?! Are these real people?”

I laughed. “Hell yeah they’re real people! I don’t pay for followers, beautiful.”

Returning her attention to her phone, she dragged her thumb in a straight line up the screen, scrolling through my posts.

“You post a lot.”

I nodded.

“Oh! Is this your sister? Y’all have the exact same face.” Turning her phone, she showed me a selfie that Rhea had taken a few weeks ago after we’d finished a workout. Sweat was pouring down both of our faces but we were grinning like kids in a candy store.

“Yup, that’s Rhea. Everyone thought we were twins when we were kids. Still do, actually.”

“Are you close?”

“Closer than close. We’re ten months apart, born in the same year and nobody knows me like she does. She’s my best friend.”

“Aww. That’s sweet,” she murmured, eyes back on the screen.

Chuckling, I sat back and patted my full belly.

“If you say so, beautiful.”

Putting her phone on the table, she pinned me with a look that made me quirk an eyebrow.

“Okay, let’s just get this out of the way. I realize that ‘beautiful’ is your general pet name for like...everyone, but that’s not going to work for me. If I’m supposed to be your fiancée, I need a name that’s unique to me.”
