The alpha growls. “Agent Bircham. My name is Agent Bircham. This is an open investigation brought on by the Department of Leading Alphas because of a credible anonymous tip. I cannot say anything else. The warrant should be here shortly.”
“But it’s not here.” I step closer, keeping my shoulders straight. This guy has no idea what he’s doing. Without a warrant, he and his team should not have even entered the premises.
“It will be soon.”
“Until I have it in my hands, you better stand down. If you don’t, I’ll do everything in my power to see you stripped of your badge.”
“Is that a threat?” The agent shifts on his feet.
“It’s a guarantee. Now watch out. I do not trust your team with my omega.”
Jerking out his arm, the agent throws his fist at me. I dodge out of the way and kick him in the knee, sending him to the floor.
“You fucker. You’ll regret that.” Instead of letting my ego get the best of me, I rush to the door. I have to get to Cali. She needs me.
And more importantly, I need her.
None of this is worth fighting for without my omega.

“Iwant my lawyer! You have to give me a phone call. You can’t do this. I’m not a criminal. I have rights, and you’re stepping all over them.” I scream the words, my voice turning hoarse from repeating the same things over and over again. I would think the alpha agent was a brick wall with how he stands firm with his arms crossed, not reacting to anything I do or say.
“You’re going to lose your job. You know damn well that it’s illegal to separate me from my alphas. I’ve done nothing wrong. You have no proof.” I circle in place, wishing I could find the power to step into the agent’s face. But I don’t trust him. I don’t know who he really is and what he is capable of. I can’t put myself in danger.
“This is an investigation,” the agent surprises me by saying. “If we didn’t have reasonable cause, we wouldn’t be here. Now please, sit down. Let us do our jobs. If you don’t cooperate, we will have to relocate you.”
Oh, hell no.
I don’t test him and sit down on the couch by the desk. I wonder if I could move fast enough to trigger the door of the panic room. I don’t know why they chose to bring me into the study. Maybe because it has the sturdiest door in the estate.
“That won’t be necessary. You still need to let me speak to my lawyer. Just give me one phone call. If you do, then you won’t have to worry about retaliation. Because you know you are breaking the law. You think you’re protected, but you’re not. I see how easily the United Alphas turn on people. Especially when it comes to omegas. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. They weren’t very nice to my father. The piece of shit.”
I hate arguing and even admitting a little piece of my past. I don’t know why they think I’m a murderer. I didn’t do anything. I just wish I could remember more besides my innocence. How did the Federal Alphas even know? They had to have been given an anonymous tip, but from—
The door creaks open, yanking me from my thoughts. I can smell Ivy before she even enters the room. Of course this was her doing.
Sucking in another breath, I turn my attention to Will as he stands behind her. His scent triggers something feral inside me. He’s dangerous. He’s disgusting.
“Hey, sweetheart. I knew I should’ve fought more to keep you. You’re in this situation because I didn’t push back against the law hard enough. I’m so sorry, Cali. But don’t you worry. I’m here now. I won’t let them lock you up. They know how successful I am at rehabilitation.” Ivy keeps her distance, her gaze flicking around the room as if she’s trying to memorize every inch of it. She doesn’t look at me though. She’s far too cowardly to actually confront me.
“This was you!” I scream, jumping to my feet. “Of course, it was fucking you. You were just so mad that I chose to stay here with my pack. You were pissed off that you couldn’t make any more money off of me.”
“Cali, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I heard that you were in trouble, and so I came. I just want to help you. Please, calm down.” Ivy raises her hands in surrender and braves stepping closer. She’s treating me like a scared animal, and it only angers me more.
“You don’t want to rot in prison, do you?” Will asks, keeping away. “Do you have any idea what they do with murdering omegas? If you don’t let us help you, you will regret not accepting my proposal.”
Ivy hisses at him, glaring. “Shut up, Will. You’ve done enough damage. Get over your ego and let me handle the situation.”
The situation. That’s all that I am in this moment.
“I didn’t murder anyone.” I dig my nails into my palms, doing my best to keep it together. I feel like a bomb about to detonate. Except I wouldn’t be taking everyone with me. I’d be doing all the damage to myself and my future.
“The evidence says otherwise. You had his blood all over you. You were retaliating. You wanted so badly to hurt the pack that was causing trouble for your alphas. You wanted so badly just to see him bleed.” Will steps forward. “Isn’t that right?”
