“Not yet,” Bear answered.

Wolf let out an enraged sound and kicked the desk.

Brynn’s chest locked. God, he was losing patience. He was going to hurt someone.

Then he swiveled and strode out of the office.

He stopped by Brynn, giving her a once over. She watched him drag in some deep breaths. When he glanced toward the hall, she knew she needed to keep him busy.

“Everyone wants to get out of here safely,” she said. “I’m sure you’ll get what you want.”

Wolf’s blue eyes glittered through his mask as he looked at her. “They had an hour. Now, they have forty minutes.”

She tried to make herself look nervous. She rubbed her belly, and the baby gave a few healthy kicks.

“Don’t go into labor,” he added. “That’s all we fucking need.”

“I still have a few weeks to go.” Thank God. “Why are you doing this?”

He cocked his head. “You ask a lot of questions.”

She shrugged. “I’m just trying not to be scared out of my mind. I came here for the free food. I am always hungry.” She pointed at her belly.

He let out a sound that might have been amusement. “I’m doing it for money.”

“So you can save the world?” She let the sarcasm leak into her voice. “Help the little people?”

Wolf leaned against the wall and crossed his arms. He was wearing jeans and a white T-shirt, and she could see he was in good shape. “I don’t give a fuck about the world. It’s never given a fuck about me.” He pointed at the room. “These fuckers all drive their fancy cars, have their big houses, go on their expensive holidays. I deserve that, too.”

“But you aren’t willing to work for it.”

His jaw tightened. “They don’t work for it. They’re born to it, or cheat and steal to get it.”

“Like you’re doing.”

He stiffened and leaned closer. “I am nothing like them.”

“They’re business owners, bosses, families. Does painting them all as horrible rich people make it easier for you to take innocent people hostage and steal what isn’t yours?”

“Be quiet,” he snapped. “I’ve seen the way they grind people under their boots.”

“Sounds personal.”

Wolf’s mouth twisted. “Yeah, it’s fucking personal. I watched my parents work hard their entire lives. Ground down by their jobs, all so they could own a tiny little house and go on one fucking cruise.”

“Are they happy?”

He sliced a hand through the air. “That has nothing to do with it.”

“Would they be happy you’re doing this?” Brynn tilted her head at the room.

At the frightened people, the terror that filled the air.

“I deserve that money just as much as anyone here.” He shot Brynn a heated, annoyed look. “I’m meant for bigger things.” Then he stalked away.

She let the air shudder out of her. Boar hadn’t returned, and thankfully, Wolf hadn’t noticed.

She glanced at the clock on the wall. Thirty-five minutes left.
