My phone lay on the bed beside my notebook, carrying Hudson’s missed calls, Lincoln’s texts, and Damien’s new number, another one blocked.
I picked up the phone and opened the thread with Hudson and Lincoln, and stared at the blank message box.
Me: I know you’re busy men, but I have an appointment for an ultrasound tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Surrey Omega Health Clinic. If you want to go, that is.
I sent it before I could fix the wording into something less pathetic.
The reply from Hudson came less than thirty seconds later.
Hudson: Definitely.
My chest tightened.
Lincoln’s message arrived almost immediately after.
Lincoln: We’ll take you. Be ready at 1 p.m.
I stared at the screen.
“Bossy,” I whispered.
Then I texted Nina, who had spent three weeks sending me increasingly unhinged messages from Boston and deserved to know I was alive, pregnant, and being fed cake by two alphas.
Chapter 15
Hudson
Mary looked beautiful as she stood on the front steps of Maeve’s home.
Lincoln got out of the car and opened the rear door for her.
“Very gentlemanly,” she said.
I came around the car. “Good afternoon, Mary.”
“Afternoon,” she said.
Lincoln looked past her toward the open front door.
Maeve arrived with Mac pressed against her leg and Mila on her hip. Then Gregor stood behind her. He didn’t say anything, and it was quite unnerving.
Lincoln leaned closer to me. “That’s Gregor?”
“I believe so.”
“Mary was right. Ominous.”
Mary bit her lip to contain a smile. “I did warn you.”
Maeve came down one step. “You’ll bring her back?”
“No, we’re going to kidnap her and leave her on an island,” I said.
“Has it got sand? Can I come?” Mac asked.
Maeve smoothed his hair down. “He’s being facetious.”
“Is that good or bad?” Mac asked.
