Whoa, this is a lot.
I pull away from Jayce, turning and staring at him. There’s concern and worry in his eyes, which only seems to grow by whatever he’s seeing in mine.
“I’m so sorry, I totally forgot I wasn’t on the pill anymore. I didn’t think I needed it when I wasn’t having sex; I just-”
“Hey… You don’t need to explain yourself; it takes two. I didn’t remind you or use anything,” he says, gripping my waist as he looks down at me.
I nod slowly, my heart thumping very loudly.
I’m… I’m carrying a baby… Jayce’s baby.
I feel my wolf stir in my mind. She must have known.
Our baby!
I place my hand on my stomach, but I can’t hear anything. It’s unbelievable.
“Whatever you decide to do, I’ll back you and respect that decision,” Jayce says quietly as he pulls me close, kissing the top of my head.
I frown, jerk away and look up at him. “What do you mean, whatever I decide?” I ask.
Jayce looks away for a second, trying to hide the chuckle that comes out under his breath. “I’m going to have to get used to this feistier version of you.”
I raise my arm, almost wanting to hit him, when I stop and glare at him. “Stop changing the subject. I haven’t changed that much.”
He kisses my forehead, that amused smirk still lingering.
This asshole.
His smirk only grows. “Alright, my feisty demoness, I meant whether you want to keep this baby or not… Whatever you decide, I will respect it.”
My heart sinks. How can he even think that of me? “You’re asking if I want to kill my child?” I ask quietly.
His smirk fades away, and he shakes his head. “All I’m saying is the choice is yours; it’s your body, your decision. Obviously, if you decide to keep it, when the baby is born, it becomes both of our responsibility, but right now you’re the one carrying it, growing it. Right now, only you have the right to decide whether you want to keep it or not.”
My heart clenches with emotion, and I raise a hand to his cheek. “Of course, I’m going to keep it. This is our baby – our little precious miracle,” I whisper. “There’s no doubt about that.”
He nods as I brush my thumb along his jaw, the prickle of his stubble coarse beneath my finger. “Alright then, we’re having a pup.”
“Are you happy with that decision?” I ask quietly, placing my other hand on my stomach.
“I am,” he says without missing a beat, the confidence and truth in his words clear.
I smile. “Then thank you for allowing me that choice,” I murmur.
He shakes his head. “You don’t need to thank me for reminding you of your right,” he says arrogantly, his arms tightening around me. “I did freak out a little when Uncle Alejandro told me. You’re only nineteen.”
I laugh lightly. “I am, but it’s not like I’m that young. Lots of people have kids at this age. Besides, it’s my duty to continue the Deimos bloodline. So treat me well; I am carrying the Blood Moon heir,” I say haughtily with a flick of my hair, doing my very best Heaven imitation.
Jayce smirks. “Oh, absolutely, I am at your beck and call, my queen.”
“As you should be,” I reply with a mischievous smile.
Our eyes meet, a smile still playing on his lips as his hand softly falls over mine that rests on my stomach.
Gods, the way this man looks at me.
Like I’m his entire world.
