I push against the force pressing me further beneath the water, and the last thing I remember is wondering if this is really how it ends for me.
Of all the ways I thought I could die, drowning was not one of them.
Jayce…
My Irritation
Jayce
Leaving her there was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. She’s in so much pain, and it just doesn’t feel like my anger, hurt and fears are worth seeing her like that.
But it’s too fucking late; there is no way I will fuck her while she’s in heat. She’ll hate that, and it would do nothing but cause more harm between our already fractured relationship.
So, I turned and left.
Grandma is keeping me updated on how Sienna is, even though I didn’t ask her to. And I may not admit it out loud, but I appreciate it.
My restlessness and my attempts to control my wolf are getting harder with every passing second.
Every unmated wolf is to stay at least a mile’s radius away from the Westwood Mansion. That is an order.
Those had been the words I sent to every single pack member, and then also as a text to Uncle Damon, to let his pack members know as well in case any did come this way.
I don’t know how long it’s been since I came out here; my phone is dead. Night has fallen, though.
I should return home, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to control myself. I hesitate, fearing what I might do.
I should be able to control myself, but what if I’m unable to? That doubt is enough to keep me away from the house.
I drop to the ground, needing a minute. I double over, breathing hard. The drakaths are back, and the attacks are intensifying, as if my own turmoil is fuelling them to become stronger.
I’m just sitting here trying to ground myself when I see a figure moving through the trees. Frowning, I turn, masking my presence completely the moment I recognise the slim figure.
Katara?
She doesn’t want to be seen; the way she’s jogging along and keeps looking over her shoulder makes all my senses rise.
Where is she headed?
Silently, I stand up and begin following her, keeping to the shadows as she heads to the edge of the pack. She slows down and casually walks out through the gates, waving at the guards as if it’s completely ok for her to be out here.
She played it smooth, too; her being casual about it doesn’t trigger any of them.
“Meeting Ares?” one of the guards says.
She nods, holding up her phone, and the man reads it and nods.
“Alright, take care,” he says. I frown as I watch her exit the gate. She’s dressed in an oversized hoodie and pants, something that is not her style, and she’s carrying a duffel bag.
Once she’s past the gates, I give it a moment for her to disappear out of sight before I quietly follow, flinching as a drakath guts me.
It’s not real, Jayce, remember that.
“What did her text say?” I ask the guard, who startles when he sees me, clearly not sensing my arrival.
“He’s meeting her just past the first marker for a movie,” he answers.
I nod, frowning.
