He lifts me off of him and places me on the bed before he gets up and pauses as he scans the floor, realising his pants are gone.
If the situation weren’t so dire, I might have laughed. Instead, I enjoy the view of his ass and those thigh muscles as he walks over to his wardrobe. I bite my lip. He’s delicious; I wouldn’t mind a bite out of him.
Yes, please…
He takes out a towel, wrapping it around his waist, stealing away my eye candy before grabbing some pants from the wardrobe.
He doesn’t look at me as he leaves the room, shutting the door behind him.
And for once, I’m glad. I exhale, thinking back to what I saw in his mind, trying to calm my emotions while keeping my own walls up.
Jayce…
I swing my legs off the bed and stand up, only to collapse to the floor, my legs giving out. I yelp as I hit the floor, flinching, before I grab his hoodie that lies discarded a foot away and pull it on before using the bed to pull myself up.
I sit on the edge of the bed; my pussy feels sore, and although my body is exhausted, my mind is alert and spinning.
I got it all wrong… The reason he’s shutting me out is that he’s scared of something – I wasn’t able to see what it was, but it wasn’t my not telling him. It’s not even the betrayal. Then…
Pain tugs at my heart, and a part of me is telling me to go to him, but one of the things I’ve learned in the Gods’ Realm is never to rush into things without thinking them through.
I drop onto my side and place my arm under my head, closing my eyes.
I smile softly, no more heat…
My heart skips a beat. Jayce kissed me, and he fucked me.
I bite my lip, replaying the memories, content and happy as slumber pulls me into its depths.
I think tonight that I’ll sleep well.
Jayce
Fuck! What did she see? I know she saw something in my mind from the way her heart rate changed. I slam my fist into the bathroom tiles, cursing when I crack them. The water from the shower pours over me. I should have been careful, especially knowing what was going to happen.
At least I feel alive, and she’s to thank for that. The drakaths are gone. As for her, she will no longer suffer from her heat cycles.
It’s done. The bond’s complete. Everything is as it should be, but it also isn’t.
I shower quickly, shampooing my hair and closing my eyes, letting the water wash the soap away, reminiscing on the moment she marked me.
I was never second best for her, or something to cast aside. I knew that, but feeling those emotions – how much respect and fucking love she has for me – fuck, I don’t want to think about it.
I press my forehead to the tiles and exhale. If I didn’t leave when I did, I don’t know what I would have done.
What am I even fucking doing?
I switch off the shower, slide open the door and grab a clean towel from the rack, wrapping it around my waist, and towel my hair with another before walking over to the mirror, tilting my neck to get a look at my mark. It’s healed up nicely and pretty fast.
Even with my neck tattoo, it stands out vibrantly in a way normal tattoos don’t. It consists of black wings, outlined with red; the red looks almost metallic, with the black part of the tattoo shimmering. The centre is a triangle with a black silhouette of a wolf’s head, outlined again in red; there’s smoke along the bottom of the triangle. Below the triangle and at its tip is a tribal design. Together, the mark loosely forms the shape of a heart.
I step back and run my tongue over my lips. It’s perfect, just like her.
My wolf doesn’t bother showing his annoyance as he usually does when I don’t express myself openly. Right now, he’s claimed his mate, and to him, that’s it; we’re one. If only he realised it’s more complicated than that; relationships aren’t that fucking easy.
I get dressed and walk back to the bedroom. I’m going to head downstairs, but I should at least ask her if she needs anything. I open the bedroom door and peer inside to see she’s pulled on my hoodie and is already fast asleep. She looks peaceful…
I resist the urge to go over and fix the duvet, and instead shut the door and head downstairs.
