There’s been a development. Patrick Bright just dashed out of RD8, sent Jem back inside and asked for my phone number. He said there are things I should read before I come in.

Sounds fishy to me. Karen may be right. This intrigue is all part of their creative installation.

I don’t think so. He looks like a ghost and is shaking like a leaf. I’ll forward the files he sent me. Let’s see what they say.

Documents sent to me by Patrick Bright while I waited outside RD8. He was visibly upset and told me they explain ‘why he didn’t get out sooner’. These go all the way back to last year, before the course even started.

Dear Patrick,

It was lovely to speak to you properly over coffee today and to hear about your retirement plans. Thank you for showing me your work. I appreciate it’s not easy, but let me tell you, in that portfolio of sketches I saw a solid talent – one that deserves to be nurtured.

Attached is an application form for the new MA course I’m running from this September to May next year. It’s designed to bridge the gap between creative work and the commercial world. I aim to create a safe space for students to develop unfamiliar skills and practise those they already possess. As you said, artists are notoriously shy when it comes to selling themselves. I promise to bring you out of your shell! Wherever and however you decide to spend your retirement, MMAM(FTP) will help you navigate the demands of a small creative business.
