And he meets my eyes. “What are you?”

“I am a vampire’s mate,” I hiss. “And you threatened what’s mine.” I slam my palm against the end of the dagger, pushing it deeper.

Steam rises from my mate’s skin as she plunges the dagger into Morell’s chest.

And I am frozen.

Nix pulled the blade from my hand.

She used gravito.

She held the dagger and used it.

She saved me.

Morell stumbles back, and Nix steps with him. Away from the ledge.

And I breathe.

I finally breathe.

And I jump to Ma Fleur.

I reach for her.

My fingers brush her shoulder as I set my feet down on the cliff behind her.

Then death claims Morell, and power explodes out of him.

Lead fills my body as I fly backward.

Off the cliff.
