If I go the wrong way, I’ll be even farther away.
I bite my lip out of habit.
The pain is instant.
I open my mouth, parting my lips, pulling in air, but the flare of anxiety doesn’t subside.
Where are you?
I press my hand harder over my chest.
Vameer, where are you?
Chapter 51
Vameer
The pressure in my chest is unbearable.
Fear of failure fills my lungs.
I should not have left.
Something pinches the back of my neck.
I hiss into the wind. And I push my gravito to go faster.
There’s a boom behind me.
And the earth blurs beneath me.
Chapter 52
Rune
Istumble as I turn back around, needing to move.
My shoulder clips something.
“Sorry,” I choke out.
I take one step, but then someone grips my arm.
Not thinking, I turn my head and look at the man.
Locking eyes.
He’s older. Taller than me. Thin. But the hold he has on my arm is firm.
His face fills with shock, and his fingers loosen against my skin. But when I try to pull away. He tightens his hold.
“Let go of me.” Tears drip down my cheeks.
“Abomination.” Hatred fills his gaze.
I shove at his hand. “Let me go!”
His eyes dip to my chest, and he takes a step closer.
