Here’s the thing about my kind. Alternate Evolutionary Outcomes.

We don’t fuck around.

And we have no use for prisoners.

Everyone here, humans or otherwise, if you’re fighting against us, you will die.

You don’t kidnap kids and live. And you certainly don’t slice my mate’s throat and live.

Old King Tosa has been on borrowed time. I hope he made the most of it.

We stop two feet back from the edge of a rock ledge, overlooking the clearing.

I can’t see him, but I know Tosa is here. Probably in that poorly disguised tent.

I’m sure he has lots of men. I’m sure he’s confident. But I’m also sure that he is gravely underestimating the situation.

A loud crack splits the air as the structure we damaged finally breaks.

Chapter 130

King Tosa

Iclench my fists as I look up the mountain and watch the lookout tower fall.

The men stationed inside scream as it goes down.

“Thirty seconds, Vameer.” I bare my teeth.

Chapter 131

Vameer

“Any last-minute phone calls?” Dread asks as he takes one step forward.

“Nyet. The floor is yours,” Volik answers seriously.

The corner of my mouth twitches.

This is far better than fighting alongside strangers.

Turns out, along with portals, my new friend can control more than dirt and tree roots.

Dread wiggles his fingers at his side.

He can control electrical currents too.

And since I know my mate wouldn’t stay home unless I tied her to the bed, we need to clear the way.

Dread closes his hands into fists. And even though I’m slightly behind him, I can still see the glow as his eyes light with magic in the darkening forest.

He exhales and pushes his hands forward, sending out a pulse of magic.

I can hear the pops of electronics failing. Some yelps of surprise and pain.

We stay still as something explodes to our right.

And we keep still as another explosion goes off straight ahead.
