“Were you two looking for a vacation hook-up?” Eli said suggestively while wagging an eyebrow at Sophia.

“I definitely wasn’t,” she replied. “But I’ve found that people are put into our lives at a certain time for a reason. We all were meant to meet.”

“I agree. We definitely were.” Liam’s eyes never left mine. That was it. My doubts from this morning were gone. Poof. Out the window. Could this night last forever? It felt too good to be true.

Chapter 16

We finished dinner minutes later and were standing outside when Eli pulled out his phone. “I’ll call us a cab. Are you guys ready for the big surprise?”

“There’s more?” I couldn’t believe it. “You’ve already done so much.”

Liam kept talking about something happening tonight, but after the day we had, how could they possibly come up with more?

Eli nodded before turning and taking a step into the street, and Liam wrapped his arm around me. “This is the best part, I hope.”

I tilted my chin up and met his eyes. “What do you mean you hope? Every second of this day has been perfect. I can’t imagine it getting any better.”

His smile grew. “If it goes as planned, the rest of today will seem like a trip to the grocery store in comparison.”

“Huh?”

“Grocery shopping is mundane and boring,” he explained.

“Wow. You’re setting the bar pretty high.”

“Here guys!” Eli waved us over to the cab and took the front seat.

He gave the address to the driver by the time we slid into the backseat, so Sophia and I were just along for the ride.

We ended up driving through Time Square and turned down a street near our hotel. Were they taking us back? The driver stopped short of where I was expecting, and Eli jumped out.

I climbed out behind Liam and followed them to the sidewalk. “You know yet?” I asked Sophia in a whisper.

A slow grin appeared on her lips. “I think so.”

The sidewalk was crammed with people standing. No one was moving or pushing past to get around. They were all waiting for something. I looked around at the buildings and realized we were standing in front of three theaters. The lights and posters of each show fought for my attention until I turned to Liam.

“What are we doing?”

He has a mischievous look in his eye. “Take a guess.”

I didn’t want to say it just in case I was wrong. My hopes were already too high, and what if I was wrong and I hurt his feelings or made him feel bad? I looked around again, hoping he’d let me off the hook but his eyes were still on me. “We’re going to a show?”

He nodded and my heart beat faster. “We’re going to a show!”

Sophia heard and grabbed Eli’s arm. “We are?”

They both said yes. Sophia and I squealed and turned to each other for a hug.

“I didn’t think we’d get to go to one.” She jumped up and down with me.

“Same!”

When we calmed down, Eli and Liam were waiting for us with amused expressions.

“You guys don’t even know what one we’re going to.” Eli shook his head.

“Doesn’t matter.” Sophia shot back.
