“Exactly.” Chaol preened. “You want me more than anything else in the world.”
“I do.”
Chaol turned to look at him over his shoulder, and a flash of vulnerability appeared in his dark eyes. “I was alone for a long time, darkling. Nobody wanted me. Even Amon chose Lilith over his own brother.”
Daniel growled, squeezing Chaol closer.
Chaol grinned, a quick, there-and-gone thing that set Daniel at ease. A thoughtful frown furrowed his brow as he turned to stare up at the ceiling. “I didn’t really think anything of it. I wasn’t wallowing in my loneliness. He’d been gone a long time before he died, and I’d learned to live on my own. I thought I was fine—until I met you. Until I heard a goddamn sin eater say ‘your brother is my brother.’ You’ve got friends and family here. They aren’t mine, but you are.”
“Maybe not yet, but they could be,” Daniel said earnestly. “I want them to be yours. I want us to be a clan. I know Nic and Julian will learn to love you, because I do. If people like Talon and Shadrach don’t,” he shrugged, “fuck ‘em.”
Chaol blinked at him in shock. “You… love me?”
Daniel didn’t understand. Was that surprising? How many times had he said Chaol was his? And that meant forever.
“Well, yeah,” he said. It should be obvious. “You’re mine. You said I’m yours. Doesn’t that mean…?”
“Yeah!” Chaol said quickly. “Yeah, it does. I’ve just never—had anyone say it before.”
“Oh.” That was shocking, but the bestial part of him that wanted to take and claim was satisfied to know he was the only one who had ever given Chaol this. “Well, I do love you. And I’m not going anywhere. In fact, I was actually worried that you would get fed up with my baggage and leave.”
“Baggage?” Chaol repeated. “What baggage?”
Daniel groaned. “The leviathans, the paladins, the angel, all of it. Being with me is going to be challenging for you. You’ll have to be around Talon and Shadrach, at least for a while. There’s a war coming with the paladins, and now this angel has teamed up with them. It’s… a lot.”
“Worth it.” Chaol waved a dismissive hand. “You walked through Hell for your brother, but I walked through Hell for you, darkling. A little war is nothing compared to that.”
Daniel chuckled. “A little war, huh? No big deal?”
“Nope, not at all.”
“And then what? After the war is over?” Daniel asked, rocking his hips a little.
Chaol went boneless, moaning. “After that, I think you should show me the world. I hear it’s different than I remember.”
Daniel rolled one of Chaol’s nipples in his fingers. “I actually haven’t seen much of the world. I grew up right here in LA, behind the guild’s wall.”
“Then—” Chaol stopped, panting, as Daniel widened his thrusts. “Fuck. Then—we’ll see the world together. You can fuck me just like this all around the world.”
“Yeah?” Daniel gave him a push, rolling on top of him and pinning him to the bed. “Just like this, huh? You like it when I fuck you like this?”
“Hell yes,” Chaol moaned. “I’ve never—felt so wanted in all my life. Fuck, Danny, yeah, just like that.”
Daniel dragged Chaol’s hands above his head and pinned them to the mattress. The kalmach keened, rolling his hips back to meet Daniel’s deliberate thrusts.
Yeah, he would never get enough of this.
Chapter 19
Chaol
Watching Daniel train was a special kind of torture. Whether he was inside testing his strength on the weights or outside sparring or practicing his hellfire with Draego, Daniel almost always wound up shirtless. With his lean muscles on display, glistening with sweat, Chaol was torn between excusing himself so he didn’t get too hard and staying so that he could.
It didn’t help that Daniel’s gaze often found his, like he could sense when Chaol was lusting after him. Hell, maybe he could. Or maybe he just lusted after Chaol an equal amount. Either way, relief usually followed swiftly after they made their excuses and left the Rink. It never made watching him any easier, though.
Like now. Daniel was sparring with Draego and Ashmedai. He was shirtless and sweaty, swinging his hellblade this way and that, blocking Draego’s blade and fire with his own, dodging Ashmedai’s claws and parrying his kinetic powers with hellfire, which licked up into the sky in sudden bursts. Dried, black blood was streaked on his smooth brown skin from wounds that healed almost as quickly as they were given. The humans’ spars inside looked like child’s play compared to this. Demons didn’t have to worry about maiming one another because they healed so quickly, so they didn’t hold back. It wasn’t uncommon to hear the snap of bone when Daniel and Draego really got going. With Ashmedai in the mix this time, they’d gone a little feral. Most of the humans had ventured back inside after realizing how seriously they fought, but a few, like Isaac, Nicolas, and Julian, stayed to watch.
Chaol watched it all with unblinking focus, drinking in the gleaming lines of Daniel’s sweat-soaked body—until a figure approached, drawing his attention.
