Before I can speak up, Veronica beats me to it. “No, it’s okay. Dr. Madden was telling me our time was about up. I’ll leave a little early to let the two of you speak.” Her head tilts to the side, flirtation flashing behind her eyes. “Is that okay, sir?”
I clear my throat. “Yes, Veronica, that’s fine. We can finish up on Tuesday.”
Her finger taps against the arm of the chair before she stands. “Tuesday seems far away.” She spins her body towards Dr. Bennett. “Do you think I would benefit from more than two sessions a week? There is just so much time between each one that I don’t want to make progress only to let that progress slip away.”
“I think that sounds like a great idea, but ultimately it’s up to Dr. Madden.” His eyes leave hers to move to mine.
This isn’t good. “I’ll uh... I’ll work on a new schedule.”
A wicked grin forms on her face. “Great! I’ll get going now.”
“I’ll walk you to the door at the end of the wing,” I offer, even though we established I’d let her come and go alone. Gaining trust and whatnot. Pushing the chair behind me, I stand and swipe the recorder off the desk without Henry noticing. “Excuse me for just a moment, Dr. Bennett.”
“Of course!” He says as I lead Veronica and me down the hall, not speaking to one another until Dr. Bennett is out of earshot.
“What the hell was that?” I question in a hushed voice.
“What?” She shrugs. “I think I could benefit from more than two sessions with you.”
“Veronica.”
“What, no nickname now?” she asks sweetly, then looks down at the recorder in my hands. “Was that thing on the whole time?”
“Yes, it was.” I tuck it into my pocket and out of her view, the realization of the situation becomes clear in my head. “Look, what just happened can’t happen again. Do you understand me?”
Her focus remains on the object in my pocket. I grit my teeth together at the lack of response. Gripping her face in my hand, I glance down the hall to ensure no one is around.
“I asked if you understood.”
“Sure, whatever.” It's a blatant lie, one she doesn’t hide. “Can I have the recorder? I mean, you left me all hot and bothered. I want to make myself come and believe this recorder”—her finger taps at my pocket—“would be the magic key.”
“I’m not giving you the recorder, Veronica.” I release her face with a gentle push. “Find another way to make yourself come.”
When I open the door to the empty hallway, she doesn’t hesitate to walk out. She turns around to make another smart remark, but I don’t let her. The door slams in her face, and I head back to my office.
CHAPTER 18
Leo
What a fucking mess.
As I walked back to the office, all I could think about was her. How she sounded. How she tasted. Dammit. Why the hell did I have to go there with her? How often did I tell myself not to let it happen, no matter how badly I wanted it to?
And fuck, I wanted to. I’d only admit it because saying it out loud to anyone, well, Myles since he is the only person I would ever tell, is all sorts of wrong.
Yes, I should have stopped myself, but I’m a man. I have no self-control. If she had just told me she didn’t want it, or if Veronica decided that what we were doing was a mistake, then I would have ended it right then.
But she didn’t.
Once my mouth was on her, tasting her, I couldn’t pull myself away. There was no force strong enough to take me away from that woman.
I’ve said it before: I have been with multiple women, but there is just something different about Veronica. Maybe it’s because I know I shouldn’t be doing this with her.
She is my patient, and I crossed a line, but then there is that thrill of being sneaky. I shouldn’t be, but I’m down bad this woman, and I’m afraid that I’ll lose control again. I’m worried she will cast me under another spell. That’s what it felt like. It was like she put a magic spell on me, making it almost impossible to turn her down.
Spells and witches aren’t real. This is all my doing.
Dr. Bennett wanted to catch up after I walked Veronica out of the office wing. He wanted to see how things were going and if I was still enjoying myself here.
