Plus, there is something I need to do before I leave this shithole.
“Text me if you change your mind. Or call Leo. He will come get you,” she suggests.
She doesn’t know he is on a date. He won’t come to get me, regardless. If he knew I was uncomfortable, he’d make me stay. This is all the more reason I need to talk with him and apologize.
“Do you want me to wait outside with you?” I offer.
“No, it’s okay. Knowing Myles, he will risk getting a speeding ticket to get here.”
“Okay. Stay close to the door until he gets here. Don’t wander off,” I tell her because God forbid she walks away and something happens to her.
She dismisses herself, leaving me standing in the chaos alone. Scanning my eyes through the club, I glimpse at the girls at the bar. They have drinks in their hands and are slowly trying to make their way to the dance floor.
Sylvia, however, heads in a different direction.
Toward the bathrooms.
Grinning to myself, I push through bodies to get to her when hands touch my hips, stopping me from continuing.
Twisting around, I’m met with a drunk man. His eyes are bloodshot; sweat drips from his forehead from the heat filling the club.
“Dance with me,” he shouts over the music.
“No,” I shout back, turning to get away, but his grip strengthens.
“Come on, sweetheart!” His smirk makes bile rise in my throat. “I’ll show you a good time.”
In a swift movement, my knee meets his groin. He releases me and bends over in pain. “I told you no.”
Walking away from him, I rush to the bathroom, hoping Sylvia is still there. When I push through the door, she stands before the mirror, applying her lipstick. Her hand stops, and her eyes meet my reflection.
“Oh. It’s you.” Her voice filled with disgust.
“The one and only.” I bow, to which she snickers.
“What do you want? To call me more names?” She caps the lipstick, dropping it into her clutch.
“Nah.” I make my way towards where she is, standing to her left from behind.
We are the same height, making what I’m about to do pretty easy. Lifting my hand, it dives into her straight hair. The strands are secure in my grasp when I clench my hand into a fist. Without a second thought, I shove her roughly forward.
She cries out when her face meets the mirror. The glass shattering to ruins on impact. Tugging her back, my body fills with joy as I see the blood dripping down her face. Tears fall from her eyes as she continues to cry.
“If you pull this shit again and try to make Chloe’s wedding day about you, I will make you regret it. Do you understand?” Her head nods frantically in my hand. “And if you tell her about this, I’ll ensure your face is unrecognizable.”
Sylvia whimpers, her lips parting as she whispers, “Okay.”
I release her and step back. “Good. I’m glad we could see eye to eye.”
Walking down the sidewalk, I can’t stop smiling. Adrenaline runs through my veins after hurting Sylvia. There is no doubt my threat will stick. She turned into a scared little girl once I smashed her face into the mirror. But I had to get my point across.
The air is cool tonight, sending chills over my exposed skin. I should have ordered a car. I would have gotten home quicker, but I needed to walk this off. Plus, it’s eleven at night, and there is no one else on this part of the street but me.
That is until I hear footsteps behind me.
I peek over my shoulder to see a man in the distance. In an attempt not to draw attention, I continue at a leisurely pace. The sound of his steps grows closer, and I remain calm even as he is right behind me.
A hand yanks my hair, pulling me back, and I wince at the pain as he walks us into a small space between two buildings.
