“Deja, you don’t have to go. Bae, just stay in the house, so we can talk. I’m sorry,” he said from behind me.

My body was in so much pain, but I was able to take off. I never took the stairs whenever I came to see him, especially since he stayed on the 3rd floor, but I took the stairs this time. I took them down and rushed over to my car.

Once inside, I locked the doors behind me because I didn’t want him to come out into the parking lot. My vision was terrible right now. It felt as if my eyes were going to completely shut on me.

Hitta stayed about twenty minutes away from me. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to make it home. I had no idea what my plan was, but in the meantime, I just pulled out of the parking spot, and I rushed to get out of here.

CHAPTER 11

WARREN ‘WOLF’ BENNETT

Iwent out this evening alone to have dinner. I could have cooked a meal for myself, but I decided to step out, treat myself to a nice steak dinner, and now I was heading back home. I had some throwback Juvenile playing, as I drove with the driver’s side window down, enjoying the nice breeze. I was bobbing my head to the music, getting ready to approach a red light, when I noticed a Range Rover just like the one Deja had, parked on the side of the road, with the hazard lights on. I swear I wasn’t some stalking ass nigga, but when we went to the drive- in movie theater that night, I remember her license plate started with the letter D. Same thing with the license plate that I was approaching. I knew that was her car.

The tint on the windows were dark just like she had hers. Even if it wasn’t her, I was still going to take a chance and see.

I ended up pulling over in the shoulder lane, where she was parked. I parked behind her. It was after eight at night, so the traffic on the main road really wasn’t that bad. I turned my hazard lights on too, stepped out, and closed the door behind me. I did a quick jog to make it over to her car. Once I approached, I knocked on the window with my knuckle.

She didn’t unlock the door. I kept knocking on the window, trying to get whoever was inside to open the door, but they wouldn’t.

“Deja, that’s you on the inside? Open the door!” I said, knocking again.

I pulled the gun from my hip, just in case it was some weird shit going on inside. I continuously banged on the window, but nothing was happening. I quickly went over to the passenger side, tried to unlock it, but it was still locked. I looked around my surroundings. I didn’t want people to think that I was trying to break into this girl’s car, but at the same time, suspicion had gotten the best of me, and I wanted to see what the fuck was going on. I did the one thing that made the most sense to me, which was use the gun to break the glass on the driver’s side.

The window shattered, and I spotted Deja slumped over in the driver’s seat. She was leaned over the middle console, and her face was beaten so bad, that she looked hardly recognizable.

I reached inside the car, so that I could unlock the door. Once it was unlocked, that’s when I rushed back over to Deja’s side, opened her car door, and I pulled her my way. I didn’t know if she was dead or what, but once I touched her, and I was able to see that her chest was rising up, and down, that’s when I knew she was alive.

I knew that I needed to take her to the hospital. I just didn’t know what the fuck I should do with her car. I thought about the people that I could call. I could hit my nigga Jamal, but it was Sunday night, and I knew that he was more than likely having family time.

I didn’t want to hit Kingston because I didn’t want him involved. Kendrix was still in his feelings with me, ever since word got back to him that I was spotted at the club with Deja. My little brother was really the only one that I could count on in this situation, so I quickly pulled my phone out, and hit him.

“Yo,” he answered.

“Where you at?” I asked him, getting straight to the point.

“At the crib. I’m about to leave in a second,” he let me know.

“Ay, I need you to do me a favor. I’m going to send you over my location. Come here and pick this car up. Take it to my spot, and leave it in the garage,” I ordered, not asking him if he was able to do it or not. Once he told me that he was home, I looked at it as if he was free and could handle this for me.

“Pick up what car? Nigga what the fuck you got going on?” he asked me. I knew he was going to have questions.

“Deja’s car. I don’t know what the fuck happened, but I saw her car pulled over on the side of the fuckin rode. Somebody put hands on her, and she was slumped over. That’s all I fuckin know man. Can you come get her car, or not?” I asked, a little more assertive this time.

“Deja, as in Poison?” he asked.

“Motha fucka, yes!” I barked at him.

“Damn. I wonder who the fuck did that shit to her. Send me the location. Ima take an Uber out there,” he let me know.

“Ima leave her key under the rug in the back. On the driver’s side. I’m taking her to the hospital. Text me when you get here,” I said. He told me that he was reserving the car now, and that it would be to him in the next two minutes.

After that, I reached inside the car, grabbed her keys that were sitting in the cupholder, and sat them down in the back, where I told my brother I would have it waiting for him. I grabbed her purse that was sitting in the passenger seat, and once I had that, I removed her seat belt, lifted her up out of the seat like it was nothing, and carried her over to my car.

She never woke up as I did any of these things. Once we made it to my car, I put her in the passenger seat, placed her seat belt on, and rushed over to get in the driver’s seat. I hated that I had to leave her car on the side of the road like that, especially with the passenger window knocked out like that. I just wanted to get her to a hospital, so I could see what the fuck was going on.

A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER

I was sitting in the hospital room with Deja, when all of a sudden, two detectives walked in the room. Two white men. They looked around the room, seeing that it was just Deja and I inside. They stood there for a while, examining Deja from across the room. Even from where they stood, they could see all the damage that had been done to her face.
