His smile faded. “Yeah, we’ll talk about that later. For now, I’m just glad you’re safe.”

Leaning in for a chaste kiss, I told him, “Take me home.”

Chapter 35

Leigh

“Can you all go at least a few days without needing me? I’m tired and my nurse is tired,” Sam said as he stitched up Glenda’s leg.

Hammer cleared his throat.

“I didn’t say I didn’t appreciate you. But at some point, the scales have tipped, cuz.” He clipped something. “All set.”

Glenda looked at her leg. “Thanks, Sam.”

“We good?” I asked. She tried to tell me she was fine to go home but I wanted that leg wound looked at, and Sam agreed it needed stitches.

Sam stood up, degloved, and washed his hands. “I’m done. Over the counter meds should be good once the lidocaine wears off. Manny’s stable so I’m going to sleep in my bed for a few hours.”

Hammer shook his hand. “We’ll leave a couple guys here.”

“If they touch any of my shit we’ll have a problem,” Sam said. “I have to keep track of all the meds in here and narcotics are reported.”

Hammer rolled his eyes. “My guys won’t touch your shit.” When Sam left the room, Hammer looked at me. “Come on down to the clubhouse. We need the rundown.”

“I’d like to get her home,” I told him.

“Shouldn’t be long. And I’ll send a couple guys over to your house to keep an eye out for now. I don’t want any more surprises.”

“Sure thing, Prez.”

Sam rinsed Glenda’s hands to be sure there wasn’t any damage there besides the obvious. Her hoodie was destroyed but we’d take care of that later. She only had a little blood on her jeans somehow, so she’d tossed the hoodie in Allie’s SUV before coming inside.

Allie dropped us off at the clinic but she was relieved of her duties, and her SUV after that. Butterbean grabbed his truck and came for us.

I climbed in the back with Glenda and we rode the short trip over to the clubhouse. Looking down, her knuckles on her left hand were swollen. They’d probably bruise. She had scratches on her arms, face and chest. Sam cleaned her up and put something over the scratches. She kept insisting she was fine, but he kept working. Good man.

“I’m so tired.” She was snuggled up against me.

“This shouldn’t take long. There’s not much of a story.”

When we pulled in, Allie was outside smoking and Linny and Pinkie were standing with her, huddled together.

Once I helped Glenda out, they ran to us and fussed over her.

Linny shoved a sweatshirt at her. “You must be freezing. Allie said you had to leave yours.”

She took it but laughed. “I’m good. I’m still riding the adrenaline wave, I think.”

“Well, keep it for when you cool off,” Linny said.

“Let’s go inside,” I told them.

They pulled her away, Linny and Pinkie surrounding her and wrapping their arms around her waist from either side.

We all headed to the bar and the ladies took a seat at one of the tables, still acting like mother hens.

Leaning down, I kissed her lips. “I’ll be back in a few.”
