And yet she hasn’t left it.
I chuckled to myself as Hollis continued to go off.
“And damn, it’s strict being your wife. First my roster must go and now no porn. I can’t even play with my pussy on my own here.” She laughed then pressed on with her rant. “Yeah, let’s gon’ ahead and wrap this the fuck up, like tomorrow morning. I’m already over this playing house setup.” I cracked up as we made it downstairs.
“Playing house? Anyways, here are your keys and the code to the gate. It’ll be another late night,” I said as I pulled out the spare keys and a slip of paper with the code written down. Hollis accepted the items, smirking at the set of keys. I should’ve expected some crazy ass shit to come flying out of her mouth, but I wasn’t prepared for her statement.
“Late night, hmm. Is that code for I’ma have some hoes wet my dick after the game, so wife don’t wait up?”
I laughed at her comment while I grabbed my gym bag.
“Naw. Unlike my wife, I believe in honoring my vows to remain true to only you, Hershey. It’s a late game. You do remember how those work, right?” I asked sarcastically as we reached the door with her close behind me.
“Yup. Lonely nights and empty ass mornings. Have a good game, Luke.” Hollis lightly pushed my back which had me snickering lowly.
I didn’t even have to turn to see the heavy ass attitude written on her face. Those brown eyes rolled and the memory of being this close to see the fluttering in her lids that had her long lashes dancing sparked something below that made me clear my throat and change the subject before my dick remembered everything I fought hard to forget.
“Of course you only remember that part. Well, if you need anything you can call Kay. She’s still the only personal assistant I have. I’m headed over there real quick to let her know you’re here.” A nod and tight lips were the only response I got. I accepted it as I headed out of the door. I had an hour before I had to be at the field and needed to eat before I got started.
I walked into Kay’s house and immediately smelled the food. Once I moved back home, she took over, preparing my game day meals Hollis used to make. Yeah, the team fed us before and after, but it wasn’t ever like this. This meal, like a lot of other things, was a must.
“Hey, Kay,” I said as I walked into the kitchen, going straight for the sink to wash my hands.
“Hey, Deacon. You’re right on time. The chicken just got done. I tried calling you earlier to see if you made it to the lawyer’s office for Jimmy’s will. I was there the other day and of course she wouldn’t disclose anything about yours to me.” She was going on while I listened, drying my hands then placing a kiss on her cheek.
“They can’t tell you my business, Kay. They don’t pass out family privileges to break laws,” I joked, which had her swatting me with the oven towel. I laughed as I moved to the island just as she placed the bowl of rice, chicken, and small cuts of sweet potatoes. It wasn’t anything magnificent to the eye, but it was a filler Hollis came up with for me back in high school that I kept like many other things she started for me.
A quick prayer then I was digging in, taking a big bite before I broke the comfortable silence, hoping she wouldn’t fully understand me with a mouth full of food.
“Speaking of, Hollis is at the house,” I mumbled. The way Kay’s neck turned as she looked at me with an expression that first appeared to be confused as her brows furrowed to her eyes going wide, I knew she wasn’t expecting this.
Shit, neither was I.
Kay didn’t hate nor dislike Hollis, but like most of our crew, she was too affected by our divorce.
Nigga, y’all had a breakup.
“Why is Hollis at your house without you there? No, better question is… when the hell did you two start speaking again?” Kay’s tone was full of concern as she placed a bottle of water on the island for me then crossed her arms over her chest, jumping right into Kay bear mode.
I chuckled through another bite of food.
“Funny story, a long ass one too.”
“Make it short, Deacon,” she snapped, clearly not backing down from getting all the details right here and right now.
“Well it turns out that… Well, for one… we’re…”
“Deacon, if you don’t spit it the hell out! Stuttering like that gon’ mess up your game.” I laughed by myself since Kay’s stony expression let me know she wasn’t playing.
“Well, we’re still married and Grandpa put a nice clause in my portion of the will that includes her.”
She was quiet for a second with a perplexed expression, then started counting on her fingers. Kay was extra as hell most of the time.
“Considering I was there when you signed those papers, that’s not adding up. So obviously someone fucked up.” Kay snapped then pointed.
“It was Hollis, wasn’t it? She forgot to sign, didn’t she?”
I shook my head while laughing as I continued to eat.
