“Skye,” I bellowed again.

Neven and Skye ran from the end of the penthouse, which was where they’d been sleeping. My bare feet slapped against the floor as I stormed across the room, leaving golden footprints with every step. My rage was rolling out of me in a rush as I laid eyes on the manipulative demon. Her eyes went wide as they met my glowing ones. Wisely she backed away and then turned to run for the door.

I rarely used my supernatural abilities, but I blocked her way in a blink. She swallowed hard as she stumbled backward and landed on her ass with a thud. She pushed herself back along the tiled floor. All I saw was red. I wanted her blood, the demon in me could taste it.

“Ri man, what’s going on,” Neven asked, but wisely didn’t touch me or block my path.

I didn’t answer Neven. My focus was on the demon on the floor, her grey eyes wide with terror. “Did you really think I wouldn’t find out?” I kept my voice calm as I watched her shiver.

“Skye, what the fuck did you do?” Neven looked between myself and his sister.

Skye bumped up against the window and whimpered as I reached down, picking her up by her neck. Small mewling noises escaped her mouth as my hand burned into her skin. “Answer me!”

“I didn’t do anything,” her voice came out small and pathetic.

I yanked her in, so our noses were touching. “I would recommend not lying to me right now, friend.” I accentuated the word like it tasted terrible in my mouth. “Your friend status is the only thing keeping you alive, but Skye, I will summon Brill right if you don’t start talking.”

“Riker, please.” Neven started to say until I glared in his direction.

“Did you know?” I glared at Neven.

“Know what,” Neven answered, but his eyes told me all I indeed to know. He had no idea what was going on.

“He doesn’t know.” Skye’s voice came out rough around the fingers pressing into her throat.

“So, you do admit you did something to Minetta.”

“Oh fuck me, Skye! Seriously?” Neven flopped into the leather chair and rubbed at his eyes.

I turned my attention back to Skye, and my hold tightened around her throat a little more. Her feet kicked, connecting with the window as smoke slowly rose into the air. She shook her head no and tried to speak but was unable around my grip.

“Sir, may I suggest you take a moment to let the girl speak, or you may never find out what happened. If you still choose to kill her, you can after you hear what she has to say,” Shilo said. His voice was calm and soothing and exactly what I needed.

My heart pounded like a drum in my chest. If something happened to Minetta, if she had left me for good because of Skye, I wasn’t sure I wouldn’t tear her limb from limb.

Releasing my hold, she dropped to the floor, her hands going to the bright red handprint round her neck. “Speak, Skye. This is your one chance to tell me the truth, all of it, or I will rip the memory from your mind and send you to one of my torture chambers for the rest of eternity.”

“The human came by last night.”

“And?”

“That was it, she saw me and left. I asked her if there was a message, and she didn’t say anything. She looked at me and got in the elevator.”

“Let me make sure I understand this in its entirety. Minetta came over last night, and you answered the door in nothing but Neven’s shirt, hair wet from just being fucked and having a shower?”

“Yes.”

“Did you tell her that you were here with me?”

“No, I swear, I didn’t say anything like that. She must have drawn her own conclusions. I can’t help what she thought.”

My knuckles cracked as a growl rippled from my lips. “Do I look like an idiot Skye? Didn’t I just say not to fuck with me? Do I look like I’m joking about killing you?”

She shook her head slowly back and forth. “I didn’t lead her on, but I didn’t correct her assumption either.”

“And then you lied to me about someone being here.” Skye pulled her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her knees.

“Yes, I lied to you,” she looked down to the floor. I turned and looked at Neven before I changed my mind. “Get her out of my sight before I kill her. And I don’t want to see her ever again. If she crosses my path, I can’t promise that I won’t kill her.”
