“The same thing you do to me.” Skye turned her head, and I kissed her hard, my tongue invading her mouth as I picked up the pace. She was so tight, and I was right on the edge.

Pulling out, I pushed back onto my knees and closed my eyes. Edging myself was such a sweet pleasure that I hadn’t enjoyed since her.

“You’re a little devil,” I said as Skye rose onto all fours and pressed her ass against my aching cock. “Dammit, woman, you’re going to make me come too soon.”

“Do it. We have the rest of the night, and I’m so close. Please, fuck me.”

“I don’t think there is anything sweeter than you begging for me.” Lining up with her once more, I gripped her hips. “I’d bite the pillow if I were you.” Skye grabbed the pillow and stared back at me from under her thick lashes as she bit down and let it hang from her mouth. “Oh fuck, that’s sexy.”

Thrusting into Skye, I lost control and let loose. Our mutual moans and slapping skin were the only noise in the quiet room. If balls could boil, mine felt like they would as the pressure intensified.

“Fuck yes, Cal, don’t stop,” Skye said, still gripping the pillow between her teeth.

I clenched my jaw as I tried to hold back and managed to make it just until Skye screamed into the pillow and slammed her ass back into me hard. That was it, and I was beyond done. My rhythm turned erratic as I hammered her as hard as I could. My fingers gripped her hips, digging into the soft skin as I came. The release was so intense it stole my next breath, the air simply freezing in my lungs.

Sweat trickled down my back as I slumped onto Skye, and we both collapsed to the bed. She went to move, but I held her tight and rolled onto my side.

“I want to stay in you all night.”

She grinned at me, and I took that as a yes and quickly grabbed the corner of the comforter and pulled it up over our bodies before cuddling her close. My heart rate was slowly returning to normal when Skye spoke.

“I still love you, Cal. I never stopped,” she said, her voice nothing more than a whisper.

“I never stopped loving you either.” Kissing the side of her neck, Skye clutched my arm, holding on as tight to me as I held her. “Get some sleep, Sugar, I’ve got you.”

What I didn’t add was that I wasn’t letting her go. There was no doubt that I wanted her back. Worthy or not…I wasn’t leaving without her agreeing to be mine again.

Closing my eyes, I listened to her breathing and knew the exact moment Skye fell asleep. I tried to relax as the wind whistled outside, but my mind just wouldn’t rest. I’d always been so confident in what had happened between us, but now….

My whole life changed that night. I’d never wanted to picture that night again but now I kept replaying when I walked in on her and Alex naked on the bed. What had I missed? Why hadn’t I stormed across the room and punched him right then?

As much as it pained me to think about what had seized me more than the betrayal was the fear that Skye had never loved me the way I loved her.

I could be furious at a drunken party mistake and still hold my head high that despite the many opportunities, I’d never cheated and never wanted to. But Skye betraying me when I was wanting to propose after she graduated high school felt like the worst thing that could ever happen. Her leaving me for one of my best friends was a knife to my heart and ego. Adding an assault charge to my record for pummeling that friend would destroy my future and any chance at the NHL.

In that moment, I was too young to think outside of my feelings.

Looking back, I now realize that what I saw was a snapshot, a single moment in time. It was a picture that only told part of a story, and there was a lot more to our story.

Before that night, my father had been pressuring me to go to Wayward for grade twelve as a favor to him and my uncle. I’d refused, not wanting to attend a school in another country where I didn’t know anyone. Why would I want to leave my home, team, and, most of all, Skye?

I had no idea what shit they were involved in or why I suddenly needed to help, but it all became clear once I arrived at Wayward and met the other kids. They put me on the hockey team—no tryout needed—and as soon as I stepped on the ice, I knew playing for Wayward was payment for some shit I never wanted to know about. It drove a deep wedge between me and my father that had never mended and we only spoke when my team faced his on the ice.

I had been walking out the door to go to Tyler’s party when my father started the fight. I told him that I wasn’t going, that he couldn’t make me, and that I was going to marry Skye. Three hours late, I stormed into the party and couldn’t find her. Hayley said she was around. So fuming and hurt, I walked into the bedroom and was punched in the face with the scene in front of me. It was like she had reached into my chest and crushed my heart with her bare hand.

Rather than say a word, I slammed the door, went home, and told my father I would leave. Hayley was all over me to speak to Skye, and we fought and said things to one another that I still regret. Skye could walk next door if she wanted to talk, but she never did. I had assumed it was her guilt that kept her away, and it only deepened my resentment.

I called her the night before I left and said I didn’t want to date her anymore cause I was leaving and there were a lot more fish in the sea then her. I’d set out to hurt her with the call and I succeeded. She cried so hard on the phone and my resolve almost broke, but just one thought of seeing her and Alex together had me getting in the car the next day and leaving.

Now, I couldn’t stop thinking about what would’ve happened if I hadn’t texted the guys saying I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it. If I had demanded to know what the fuck was happening. If I was ten minutes earlier.

As full as my heart was holding Skye again, the what-ifs were plaguing my mind. What if I had walked in on her being assaulted and stormed away? Tears filled my eyes, and I buried my face in her hair. The anger brewing was so volatile that I didn’t know what I would do if that was what happened.

No, I did know. Skye was mine, and no one hurt her. If it was true…I was going to kill Alex.
