“Not because you’re weak. Don’t twist this into something it’s not. If something ever happened to you…if someone touched you…” His voice dropped to a dangerous level. “Then my heart might as well stop. Because you’re not just someone I care about. You’re not even simply the person I love. You’re mine.”

The look in his eyes should’ve scared me…should’ve sent me running. But it didn’t. Instead, I had to contain a smirk as heat unfurled low in my belly. That look didn’t terrify me. It turned me on.

He moved closer, and the air crackled between us. I swayed slightly on my feet as I looked up, and our eyes locked.

“The further you are from danger, the better I sleep. Because when you’re safe, I can breathe. And when you’re not…” His hand curled into a fist. “I start thinking about how many bodies I’ll stack just to make the world leave you the fuck alone.”

That was it, that was all I could take. My reason for being angry was pushed to the back of my mind.

“You keep looking at me like that…” I murmured. “And you won’t get any more work done today.”

I was shocked at my bravado, but the hunger in his eyes was making me bold.

“Is that so,” Titus asked, the tension rolling off him filled the room.

“Oh, it is.”

I was all in on whatever happened next. My gaze drifted to the desk before I trailed a single finger down the center of his chest, slow and teasing.

“What if I said I want you to take me?” I stepped in close enough that I could feel the heat coming off his body. “Right here. On your desk. Right now.”

The sound he made was guttural and oh so deliciously dangerous. It rippled through the air and slammed straight into my core. A heartbeat later, Titus turned and swept everything off the desk with one violent motion. Papers, pens, and even his laptop crashed to the floor like an afterthought.

“I don’t know what’s gotten into you, Little Bird,” he growled, closing the space between us once more. “But fuck…you’re about to make me lose the last bit of control I’ve got.”

I smiled, tilting my chin up to meet his gaze. The golden amber color of his eyes burned as brightly as the sunlight shining in from outside. Today was a new day and a new me.

“Good,” I said. “Show me exactly what that look in your eyes means.”

Chapter

Thirty-Seven

TITUS

I was quickly passing the line of addiction and running headlong down the slope toward obsession. My love for Fawn had never been in question, but now my sanity was quite questionable. Ronan hadn’t just freed me from a loveless marriage contract. He’d freed someone else…something else.

My lips crashed down onto hers, and she moaned so wildly that it was as erotic as if she’d wrapped her hand around my cock. My hands moved of their own accord, and unlike last night, where I wanted to take my time, today my patience was already well frayed. The morning had been heading off the rails before my father showed up at my door to push more of my buttons. Fawn was offering a few moments of escape from the turbulence still coming our way, and I was going to take it.

Grabbing the front of her jeans, I yanked the button open, pulled the zipper down, and slipped my hand inside. Fawn shuddered as I rubbed my fingers over her underwear. I loved that she was already soaking wet.

Pushing the annoying silky fabric aside, I sank my finger into her and groaned at the feel of her warmth. Fawn’s hands immediately gripped my arms, her nails digging in as her eyes fluttered closed. Fuck, she was beautiful. The pure pleasure written across her face was the sexiest look in the world.

Adding another, I quickened my pace to match the slight thrust of her hips. I focused on everything from the most obvious to the most subtle of reactions, committing them to memory. She gasped, her hands tightened, and I knew she was closing in on an orgasm. Fawn was moving faster now as she fucked herself on my hand, and I waited until she was right at the very top, then pulled my fingers away.

The wild look in her eyes and the soft pout of her lips brought on a smirk. I sucked the digits into my mouth, and her cheeks flamed red just like last night. Cupping her chin in my hand, I searched her face.

“I’m going to fuck you while you’re bent over my desk,” I growled. Fawn licked her lips. “Think you can handle it?”

One adorably defiant eyebrow arched.

“Do you promise to make me scream?”

“Until you blackout,” I shot back without hesitation.

Instead of backing down, my Little Bird just smiled and rose onto her toes, cupping my face with both hands before kissing me hard.

Her mouth was demanding and rougher than I’d ever dared be with her. And just like that, she crushed every idea I’d ever built about who she was. Or maybe who she needed me to be.
