“Nah.” He pulled away slightly. “You gotta stop before I fuck you out here,” he warned.

I released a shaky breath before pulling back just enough to stare into his dark, heavy eyes. This was pure human attraction. Tiny psychological warfare wrapped in tongue and eye contact… The dangerous part about it was that I wanted more and more. I was totally out of character, and I knew it one hundred percent.

“Thank you, Ro Ro.” I blushed, looking away from him.

I was never the type to feel this soft and vulnerable for a man. This mushy feeling was completely new. I also never had a man go out his way like Royal had today to make me feel special.

“Why you thanking me?” He asked, pulling me back up against him by the front of my pants.

I swallowed down my overwhelming rising emotions and looked him deep in the eyes, unblinking. My chest felt tight as hell. Spike’s Lounge was right behind us, and I found myself struggling with words. My fingers twisted together nervously before I laughed under my breath lowly, a little embarrassed.

“I don’t know how to act with somebody like you.” I smiled nervously. “I don’t mean that shit in a negative way either… I’ve always been the dominant one with every man…inside and outside of the bedroom,” I confessed, sounding more confident.

“Then there was me always feeling like I had to prove why I deserved shit… like flowers, respect, and loyalty… basic ass effort.” My voice cracked a little, making me a little irritated with all my emotions coming out at once. “Over the years, my dating life sucked. Most men assumed because a woman is big, she gon’ accept all sorts of bullshit just to be able to say she got a man.” I shook my head.

“I’ve never been that woman. I don’t accept shit that’s beneath me. I’m very blunt and upfront about things. Still… I always felt like I had to prove to them that I was worth treating the correct way. Eventually, if I didn’t keep proving that shit to them, then they’d stop seeing value in me.”

The silence after my confession felt deafening. I could barely breathe while standing in front of him, and it wasn’t because he hadn’t said anything right away. It was because, for the first time in my life, I realized how exhausted I was. Not just my love life because I paid it no attention. I was used to being over men and all of the bullshit that came with them.

I was exhausted with Spike’s Lounge, although I made it my number one priority like I did my father. Royal’s hand slid under my chin firmly.

“You got me standing here speechless as fuck, Amaris. I never done this for a woman. I told you I pay for pussy just to protect my own feelings since the first woman I ever loved failed at protecting me… I almost had a girlfriend; caught feelings for her but I wouldn’t call it being deep in love because I didn’t even want to fight for her after she kept playing me…She good peoples… just don’t want better for herself….” He looked away from me as his jaw tightened. “I ain’t got no excuses for myself but like I told you in the beginning… I think you an architectural woman. You built different then a lot of these broads out here. You structured, bold as hell with a mouth on you, and very intentional with everything down to the choice of words that leave your mouth.” He genuinely smiled down at me.

My cheeks heated up as he leaned down and pressed a firm kiss on my forehead.

“I told you soon as I met you that you had me…” His words trailed off, he lifted his hand and snapped his thumb and index finger searching for the word that I remembered since the first time we met.

“Smitten.” He chuckled with a smirk gracing his handsome face. “You had a nigga smitten. I ain’t lie about that. I knew your worth without you having to say that shit. I tried to keep away because, at first, I wasn’t ready to step correct. I hate a mutha fucka that waste my time, so it would be contradicting of me to waste yours… I told you I was a dog, baby, now look at you falling for this dog.” His smirk turned into a full panty wetting smile.

He licked his thick cinnamon lips then tugged at the bottom of his beard.

“Rooof roof!” He barked, causing me to laugh.

“Hopefully, after all the dick—nah, let me reword that.” He cleared his throat.

I playfully punched his chest, and he winced like my hit crushed him.

“Don’t get fucked up, Ro Ro,” I warned him.

“I was trying to say—” He pulled his bottom lip into his mouth then released it. “Hopefully after the getting to know each other phase… Through the romance that I’m learning to give, and all this dick that’s gon’ be feeding your mind, body, and soul…” He raised his bushy brows. “I can be your dog… I’ll even let you put a leash on a nigga so I won’t stray away from home.” He winked.

I giggled at that, even with the dangerous thoughts of me imagining myself really having to fuck Royal up.

“You haven’t seen my crazy side, Ro Ro…” I warned. “The dick is A plus… you had me pissed disappearing like—”

“Nope, I didn’t disappear… I was tending to some personal shit. You had my number, Breasturant.” He frowned.

“I had your number—” My words cut off when my eyes landed on his big burly bodyguard walking up and stopping a couple of feet away.

Royal didn’t even bother to turn around to see who I was glaring at. I lifted my hand and flicked Brutal off for the way his big ass manhandled me back at my house the day Royal came to kidnap me. Brutal was handsome, tall, and scary looking with a scar on the side of his cheek. He looked like the type of nigga that killed and tortured people for the fuck of it.

I wanted to stay far the fuck away from him. He winked his eyes and puckered his lips, blowing me an air kiss.

“That nigga just blew me a kiss.” I frowned.

“The kiss of death.” Royal laughed like he found my bewildered look amusing. “Leave that nigga alone, he ain’t as nice as me,” he said flatly, letting me know he was serious.

“Back to you having my number stored in your phone and didn’t bother to call or at least check up on a nigga.” He had the nerve to pout.
