“Thank you, I’ve been working with my otolaryngologist… doing throat therapy and pain management to help myself better so that I can talk more without feeling pain,” I confided to her.

“That’s good, I don’t want you in pain forever… and since it seems like we gon’ have a bunch of kids… you gon’ need those vocals when it’s time to get on their case.” She smiled.

I laughed lowly at that because something told me that I was going to be the more laid back and easy-going parent while La’Nova would be stricter and firmer.

CHAPTER 23

Royal

MORE THAN FEELINGS.

Christmas was seven days away, and I found myself stressing out over a major holiday for the first time ever. I never celebrated any holiday nor my birthday since I already had everything I’ve ever wanted, materialistic and money wise. Now I had nieces and nephews that were already spoiled and expecting gifts from me.

Cain’s bad ass kept mentioning all the things he wanted while Abel said nothing but nodded his head after everything his twin mentioned. Between them, Novae, and Sanarah’s kids, my bank account would be hit over the head with electronics and clothing purchases for the kids alone.

I still hadn’t bought Amaris a damn thing because I had no clue on what to get her. Her gift wasn’t going to be just for Christmas but for our birthdays that was days away. I had a thought but wondered if it would be overstepping since she’s been saving for a long time to reach a goal that I could have met for her in seconds. It made no sense to me why I kept overthinking a move that would make things easier for her. I also didn’t believe in a man laying up with a woman and not breaking bread like Jesus said. I didn’t care if we had something serious or not. We have been glued to each other since our first official date, and I couldn’t stop thinking about her goal to buy her dad out so she could make Spike’s Lounge hers, officially.

The bathroom door opened and my entire train of thought derailed immediately. Amaris stepped out surrounded by a cloud of steam with a white towel wrapped securely around her body. Water droplets glistened along her espresso skin while the scent of coconut body wash mixed with vanilla filled my room.

Breasturant really made it hard for me to just concentrate these days. Her locs were wrapped into a loose towel on top of her head while she hummed softly to herself completely unaware how hard I was staring at her.

“Don’t try to hum all low now, you were just in that bitch singing like you was Whitney Houston herself.” I smirked, throwing the covers off me.

“Whatever, Ro Ro, I ain’t got time to be arguing with you today.” She pouted.

“Come here, big baby.” I waved her over.

“No.” She threw one hand up as if I was standing in front of her. “I told you I’m not getting down that nasty with you while I’m on my period, plus my cramps hitting hard now… the shower barely worked,” she complained.

“A good nut would stop the cramps. I could at least play with it to help you.” I tried to sound convincing.

“I swear you the nastiest nigga I ever met.” She rolled her eyes.

“I know.” I smirked. “You the nastiest broad I ever fucked with… How many times after our dinner date you let me fuck that pussy with my foot?”

She gave me a pointed look before rolling her eyes hard. I smiled and watched her move toward my dresser where an entire section had unofficially become hers. All of her different lotions and body butters that she ordered, along with her body oils and perfumes were lined up perfectly. There was no way in hell I’d lay-up with her inside of Maniac’s house, so my house had become a second home for her away from home.

There was no pressure on both of our ends. I didn’t know what the hell we were doing, Amaris called it dating but once we parted for just a day… we found ourselves right back in my house and in my bedroom.

Her and my mom spent time together cooking and talking in the kitchen or outside in the backyard where Amaris loved the most. If she didn’t have to work every day, she’d be in the pool; it didn’t matter if it was hot or cold.

I got comfortable and content with coming home already knowing my mom and Amaris was here. Lately my thoughts had been at ease, and the strong craving to have a drink or excessively smoke to replace me popping a pill had been low. I didn’t spend my late nights feeling bothered or conflicted with thoughts that felt like ghosts haunting me either.

My second business phone went off and I almost ignored it being too caught up with looking at Amaris’s fat ass sitting up right beneath the towel. I reached over to my nightstand to grab my phone with my eyes still glued to Amaris.

“We got a problem that can turn ugly.” Brutal’s voice came out sounding rushed.

My body instantly tensed, I wasted no time tossing my pillows to the side of me and snatching up my nine-millimeter.

“Shoot.” I frowned.

“I got Maniac and his men surrounded.” He kept it brief not going into detail.

I chuckled dryly because I had no clue what the fuck this nigga Maniac was on right now.

“Where he at?” I pressed.

“Your house,” Brutal said in a warning tone.
