“It’s too fuckin’ early for you to be fucking me raw and begging to fuck me while I bleed too, but you don’t see me having temper tantrums,” she rebutted, voice full of attitude instead of fear now.
“Yeah you right,” I grimly replied. “I guess I’m a sucker for love ass nigga but I’m a Capo first… a Capo that don’t give a fuck about none of what you spittin’, ma.”
Her bottom lip dropped open. I meant everything I said so I didn’t give a fuck how she took that shit. I was never the nigga to sit up and sugarcoat nor flat out lie. I for sure wasn’t about to be the kind of nigga to simmer down just because I was digging her for the sake of a weak ass nigga like Maniac, who I considered beneath me, to accept me.
“Since he so concerned.” I nodded my head toward my dresser then closet. “Pack up all your shit and get ready to leave with that nigga.”
I snatched the door open and stomped down the hall toward my front door. Truth is, I didn’t want Amaris to leave. I wanted to keep her pretty ass here with me. It just wasn’t worth the conflict of interest with her dad not knowing that he had no place being here in the first place. I wouldn’t dare make her chose either. Not when our feelings were fresh, and we were nearly just beginning. Amaris loved her dad, he was the only parent that fought for her and loved her when her mother wouldn’t. I respected the respect she had for him so I didn’t plan on making things hard for her when it was clear the nigga thought his daughter was too good for me.
The morning air hit colder than it should have, maybe because tension had a way of changing temperature. Amaris just didn’t know that it was because of her that Maniac was still breathing cause I would’ve been gave my men the order to chip his old should- have-been-retired-out-the-game ass.
I stepped out onto my front porch with a blunt resting between my lips and my gun hanging loosely at my side. Thanks to my mom, my house looked welcoming with the Christmas lights wrapped around the trees lining my driveway. She even had me pay people to come out and wrap blue lights around the roof of the house.
My house looked festive as hell, and right in front of it sat eight black Yukon trucks full of men standing around ready to turn this upcoming holiday into a funeral.
The smoke burned my lungs as I walked slowly down the driveway. I took my time and made sure to look every single man in the eyes. Brutal appeared out of nowhere and stood by my side.
“What’s the move?” He asked lowly as I locked eyes with Maniac.
He rubbed his hand over his bald head and widened his standing position as if he was preparing himself to go toe to toe with me. As bad as I wanted to keep shit peaceful, I had to send a direct message to him before even conversing with his bitch ass.
“Tell Tabari to have our men put silencers on their guns and lay all of them out except his bitch ass,” I demanded smoothly, smirking sinisterly in Maniac’s direction.
Since he caused me to not get no period pussy this morning, I was about to shorten his count on men and run his pockets for an expensive funeral and burial for the men he brought out today.
Brutal nodded his head, got on his burner phone and spoke quickly in code. I remained ten feet from Maniac, releasing smoke into the air. Seconds later, all of his men started to drop like flies around him. He jumped around like he was dodging the bullets himself as panic was evident in his eyes every time he glanced over at me for answers.
“What the fuck, man! I ain’t come here for this!!! Tell your men to stop!” he pleaded loudly.
His last two guarded men shielded him hesitantly; they didn’t want to lose their lives for their so-called leader but had a duty to fulfill. I held one hand up, deciding to spare the last two men guarding Maniac’s life with theirs since it was now over a dozen sprawled out with bullet holes in the center of their foreheads.
“You came here to die?” I laughed, offering him a shit eating grin from ear to ear.
He quickly got his composure together, took his eyes off his slain men and looked me directly in the eyes. I actually had to respect what I saw because fear was no longer in his eyes, only determination for why he showed up in the first place. I removed my blunt from my mouth and eyed him back without blinking.
“Behind my daughter.” His voice carried to where I stood. “She my only child, so behind her, I’ll burn every bridge necessary.”
I nodded although his words weren’t for me. The words he spoke was for himself as a reminder and declaration. He was a father trying to justify his desperation in staying in control over his daughter’s life like most fathers did.
“You don’t deserve to be in the same space as her.” He pointed in my direction.
A part of me believed what he said, then there was the part of me that felt an unfamiliar pain behind his words… because did I really deserve to be in the same space as Amaris when I was a fucked up in the head ass nigga? I paid for pussy on a regular, and the first woman I thought I fell for was a real stomp down hoe. I was out here trying to fill voids with love then ending up on the short end of the stick each time I did.
I knew exactly the kind of man I was, and I sure as hell wasn’t the kind for a woman to bring home to Pops. The things I’d done, the blood attached to my name including the people I buried and felt no remorse for was the kind of man I was. What got me with Amaris was that she looked at a nigga like me like I was still worth saving and loving.
That last thought sat heavy in my chest before I could even respond back to him.
“STOP!” Amaris yelled from behind me.
I shook my head.
Women always got to come with the dramatics…. I thought, ready to wrap this shit up. I was thankful that my mom woke up in the afternoon since she stayed up late most nights out in the backyard with her wine and cigarettes. She learned how to work social media and now she found herself caught up for hours scrolling and laughing. I was cool with whatever brought moms peace and joy. I let her do whatever she liked.
I turned slowly to see Amaris stomping hard our way, her sandals smacked against the balls of her feet as her locs fought to stay out of her face. Even with her panicked and angered expression, she was beautiful authentically.
Soon as she stood in between us, she turned directly toward Maniac and went in.
“Daddy, what are you doing here?”
