Those brown eyes of his were very hopeful, I saw no harm in us getting together and catching up. It would be nice to know someone other than my best friend and her illegal friends. I gave Brian my number, we hugged and went our separate ways. Once I got in my car I took in a deep breath and exhaled. Brian looked so fine, even better than the last time I saw him all those years back. His girl had better be happy that I was not the type of woman to break up happy homes. Starting up my car, I chose to play Sade just so I could vibe. I needed to set my goals and motion and not lose sight of them. I was determined to buy a new laptop and a desk for my room when I received my first check. I needed to start working on my dream and that was writing, it helped with so much like my anxiety. I also was in love with the craft itself. Sometimes we as humans could get so comfortable with where we were currently in life and put our dreams on hold. That’s not what I wanted, seeing Brian pumped me up to do better so I could feel better not only for my goals but for myself.
When I made it home, I spoke to Lay and Stone who was cuddled up on the couch. They were such love birds, they stayed up underneath each other. Making my way to my room, I stripped down and showered. It was Saturday and all I had planned was relaxing, catching up on shows, and writing out my short-term and long-term goals. I was in my zone listening to music while looking up at the ceiling. I thought of my mom every single day. Some days the thought of her brought a smile to my face. Then there were days like today, I thought of her and the tears would flow. I would lay on my back for hours at a time and just cry. I felt so lost without her or my brother here. I often felt jealous of my brother for being able to be back with my mom. They left me down here to fend for myself. I missed the two so much, my mom was like my best friend. I shared things with her that I didn’t see myself sharing with another. A tap at my door caused me to sit up and clear my throat.
“Just a minute!”
I yelled as I turned the radio down and ran into my bathroom to throw cold water on my face hoping that it made my red puffy eyes go down. I went back to sit Indian-style in the middle of my bed.
“Come in!”
Meshalay walked in with a cheesy smile.
“Bitch! I oughta slap you! When were you going to tell me that Praise had it bad for you heifer!”
Meshalay was so damn animated and dramatic. Her slender frame leaned on the entrance of my room door. She had no makeup on as her skin glowed. Her shoulder-length hair was messy all over her head which indicated she just had some good sex. Every time she and Stone got done fucking, he would fall asleep for hours. She would put on his big ass white tee then come bother me. I didn’t mind because we needed to catch up. We both had been so busy, her with her new shop she was getting ready to open. Me with my new job with Mattea, it’s like we both were coming and going. I missed her, things were different than what they used to be. We would see each other every day since we worked together. I realized I needed to start setting me up a plan. My best friend and Stone were getting real serious, which was fine with me. This roommate thing wouldn’t last that long. It could last forever if I left it up to Lay. I just didn’t see myself imposing on her life forever.
Plopping down on my bed she got comfortable as I filled her in on everything except Brian.
“You did what?! Oh my Gawd Kay I can’t believe you got that fucking bold on him! Stone was saying how Praise been mentioning you more and more when they be out handling business.”
I wanted to ask her what was he saying but thought it was best if I did not know.
“I wish he didn’t mention me at all.”
I said lowly as she smacked her lips followed by her eyes rolling.
“I wish you would live a little like you did when you let him play in that pussy! Praise is a hard man to capture and from what it looks like to me… you captured his attention!”
She was so excited it showed in her body language.
“Look Lay, I only did what I did to make him back the fuck off of me… I don’t date guys like Praise, it would be too contradicting of me.”
“Girl please, Praise isn’t even illegal like that from what I see they're into real estate.”
She argued, now it was my turn to roll my eyes at her. Meshalay could be so damn gullible at times.
“If that’s what they want you to believe so be it, but I’m not bending on that. I don’t want Praise and soon as I find a decent-paying job, I’m quitting. It’s too much drama even if I wanted to deal with him starting with his baby momma.”
“I know that bitch ain’t got you shook? You know I’ll beat a bitch up behind you Kay.”
I know she was right, but Laquanna was a different type of crazy. She was the type of chick that would get her ass beat over and over and still would come back for more and more. I was too old and handicapped to be out here fighting a bitch like high school days. I had metal in my hip and knee from the accident. I didn’t need no more problems concerning my health.
“The point is, I’ll be open to dating again when I get my life in order Lay trust it won’t be with Praise though.”
“Whatever, so what else has been up with you?”
“I ran into Brian earlier…”
Her eyes got big as she picked up my cup of apple juice and took a couple of sips. My face frowned up at her, she knew how I felt about my apple juice, especially if I had ice cubes in it.
“Just keep it bitch! You been sucking dick and all then put your lips on my shit. Ugh.”
I cringed, I walked in plenty of times on her and Stone in the living room. One-time Meshalay was on her knees giving off pornstar vibes. She was sucking him so hard they both never noticed me walk by them. After that, I stopped letting her taste my food from the same fork and drink from my cup.
“Bitch I brushed my teeth!”
She laughed as I rolled my eyes at her nasty ass.
“Like I said I saw him and gave him my number, I could use another friend you know. Nothing will be serious; he got a baby and a girl out here… she’s a nurse and he’s a doctor. Brian still looks good as hell. You can tell he’s still nerdy too though.”
