I laughed, softly. ‘Let me make us a drink. But first, I need to clean up a little.’ I said as I strolled towards the French doors and opened them a little, allowing the refreshing sea breeze to float throughout the space. I took a deep breath of the ocean air to calm my nerves.

‘There’s a bathroom that way.’ He pointed to the door I knew was his bedroom. ‘Drinks are in the kitchen. Hunt until you find them… I’ll have a whisky. I’ll stay here and let my racing heart calm before I eat that hot, wet pussy of yours.’ His look almost made my panties combust. Shit, it would be so good, I was certain, but I needed to think about Guinn.

I winked at him. ‘I can’t wait.’ I said in a sultry voice, earning a gorgeous smile that made those pesky butterflies rampage again.

On stilted legs, I grabbed my clutch, walked to the sumptuous bathroom, and checked my reflection. I was a train wreck, both physically and emotionally. I wiped my eyes and lips, cleaning up the smudged makeup, and topped up my lipstick. Then I leaned my hands on the wide vanity and stared at myself in the mirror.

Fucking hell, I was about to do it. I was about to kill a demigod. The fatigue of uncertainty dragged at me.

I took the vial of white powder from the empty lipstick tube and pushed it into the front of my bustier, leaving my clutch in the bathroom. I sauntered out, peeking over at Si, who had his eyes closed, a small smile tugging at his lips. He looked so content, and guilt tore down my middle with razor-tipped claws. Damn it.

I searched the kitchen until I found a drinks cabinet and poured two large whiskies. Taking the white powder, I poured the whole vial into one glass and stirred it as my heart sank to the abyss of my stomach. I placed the vial in the trash to retrieve when I left, and turning back around, I sashayed into the living space, Si’s eyes landing on me. I handed him his drink, clinked glasses and downed mine. He followed suit.

‘Now where were we?’ he purred. In a flash, I was over his shoulder, and I screeched with shock. ‘I’m hungry for that pussy, Amelia,’ he growled. ‘Famished for it.’ He prowled into the bedroom and lay me on the enormous bed. I sat up and laughed with glee, then my laughter died. This man had my emotions in a tangled web of confusion.

‘Is something wrong?’ He cocked his head.

‘No.’ I jumped up. ‘I need to undress for you. Lay on the bed, bossy demigod.’

He chuckled darkly. ‘Then you can sit on my face, and I’ll devour you,’ he said, before he frowned slightly and put a hand to his head.

‘Si, lay down.’ I helped him to the bed, and he all but fell onto his back, as I dashed back to the bathroom.

‘Amelia?’ His raspy voice sounded strained. Oh gods. I’d never recover from what I was about to do.

‘I’m here,’ I said, crawling beside him, the dagger behind my back, as I stroked his forehead with my other hand. He closed his eyes and sighed. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Tears slid down my face as I lifted the dagger and plunged it straight into his heart. He let out a small breath and stilled, and my heart felt like it had been put through a meat grinder.

I kissed his lips, sobbing, ‘I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.’

The clock was ticking—I knew I needed to get out of there, so I pulled myself away, leaving the dagger. There was no way in Hades I was going to decapitate him. No fecking way. Rushing to the bathroom, I popped on the helmet and picked up my clutch. I needed to retrieve the vial and my dress.

Pulling open the door, I stopped and stiffened when I saw a man leaning over Si. One hand was on his head, the other on his chest, just below the dagger.

‘Come on, Majesty. I’m not letting you go, Sire. Hold on, Poseidon.’

P—Poseidon? My heart tried to punch a hole through my ribcage. Poseidon. The. God? Freezing cold dripped down my middle, as my world bled of colour and dread and panic overwhelmed me. Fuck, Fucking fuck. I think I’m gonna pass out. I’m so dead.

I crept out of the bathroom, almost screaming when a big bastard appeared out of thin air, followed by a tiny blonde female—their backs to me.

‘Thank the gods you’re here, Sephy.’ The original guy said to the woman. ‘Hades, my Lord. Sorry, I can't bow. Trying to keep his soul rooted, you know?’ He grinned up at the enormous man.

All I heard was Hades. Fucking Hades? God of the Underworld? Chest tight, unable to breathe, I legged it out of there. The big brute turned as I passed, but I didn’t stop.

I slipped out onto the balcony through the gap in the open French doors, my clutch between my teeth, and silently retrieved the rope and fold-up, plastic grappling hook; securing the hook, I threw the rope down and got my ass back to my bedroom. I dressed, threw the helmet into the small suitcase, and grabbed my already packed bags, when the phone given to me by the client rang.

‘Hello,’ I grunted.

‘You failed, assassin. Poseidon is not known for his forgiveness, and he is renowned for his temper. He is unpredictable and often dangerous, much like his oceans. You’d best run… As fast as you can.’

‘But… I—I stabbed him… Through the heart.’

‘He is a god. It merely sends them into eternal sleep until they are healed. I wanted his head,’ she snarled, and then hung up.

This was the absolute clusterfuck of clusterfucks.

Just slather me with butter and Marmite… I’m fucking toast if he catches me.

I swallowed the bands of fear squeezing my chest, stuck to my plan, and got the hell out of Dodge.
