“Hey, Youth…” He started to warn him, but Youth was still talking.

“—here already? I see your headlights. That was so fast, dude. I’ll come out to meet you.”

“Wait? What? Youth!” Truth shouted into the phone, but it was too late. The call went dead and Truth threw his phone into the passenger seat. It bounced off the cushion and nosedived to the floor, and he ground his teeth in frustration.

Pressing his foot down on the pedal, the lame little car jolted forward, and Truth drove across town as quickly as he could.

He just hoped he wasn’t too late—for both their sakes.

DARIA

The moon shone bright through the windows, casting light across the floor to mix with the soft glow of the TV in the living room. Daria was in heaven. The smell of chocolate was heavy in the air, her and her demons were safe, and they were all together. Blankets and pillows and cushions piled beneath them and the longer she laid between all of her demons, each of them touching her in one way or another, the further her fears slipped away.

Pain and Persy and Wrath and Sofia were cuddled up too, each in their own little couplings.

Sleep was dragging her under, her eyelids heavy as the guys talked softly around her.

At least until the bright lights of a car cut through the room.

She sat up instantly, half afraid Pandora had returned to finish what she’d started.

Death was on his feet in an instant, peeking out the window with a frown.

Daria glanced toward the kitchen, only to find it empty.

Taking stock of the demons around her, only one was missing.

“Did Truth just leave?” she asked with a frown.

The faces around her matched her expression, lips turning down left and right, but it was Hope who jumped to his feet and jogged outside. For some reason, her pulse began to race and she swallowed hard. Dread curled in her gut and she sucked in a sharp breath.

By the time Hope made it back, she was on her feet too, already pacing.

“Yeah, Pain’s car is gone.”

“He took my car?” Pain questioned.

“Looks that way,” Hope said, confusion plain on his features.

“Where would he have gone?” she inquired, and then shook her head at the silly question. They didn’t know any better than she did. Pulling out her phone, she dialed Truth, hoping he would answer and explain his sudden departure.

As it rang, her gut sank and she made her way to the kitchen, drawn by the steam still rising off the chocolate. She turned off the stovetop and turned down the crock pot.

The call dumped into voice mail.

“I can always find out where he went,” Persy offered.

Daria wasn’t one to spy on her guys, but with Pandora out there…

“Do it,” Death answered for her.

Together, like a funeral procession, they all gathered upstairs around Persy’s desk. Her fingers danced over the keyboard and only moments later, the familiar screen of the trackers appeared. Her demons were different colors, whereas the original trackers were yellow.

“Oh shit,” she breathed. On the screen, the blinking blue dot depicting Truth’s whereabouts showed him moving quickly.

“Where’s he going?” Daria murmured. She wanted to grasp at straws, beg for an explanation, but confusion was fogging her brain and she just didn’t know what was going on. Tugging her phone out of her pocket again, she dialed. In the next second, her phone was pressed to her ear as the electronic ring buzzed.
