Soren shook his head. He’d just met this woman.
Racing to the bathroom, he shut the door behind himself and locked it for privacy, but it was more of the same. Tantalizing, fresh strawberry and pine.
Soren... he couldn’t deny his own curiosity. He wanted to know her the same way she wanted to know about him.
So far, he’d been lucky enough to hide from her, but there was only so long that would be acceptable. Soren would have to face her and her barrage of questions eventually.
But how long would that take? He couldn’t hide her phone forever. He couldn’t keep her here. Despite what she feared, Soren wasn’t a monster. And he wasn’t trying to answer any questions from a detective. Not to mention the rental car company. He groaned. Technology was such a pain these days, you couldn’t hide anything.
This was too messy.
“Why did I do this to myself?”he whispered.
Soren shook his head and racked his brain. What was he going to do?
He needed to know that as soon as he let her free, she wasn’t going to come back with the federal government and a bunch of doctors and needles.
Running a frustrated hand through his hair, he stopped pacing and faced the mirror. Then he paused.
Ice crystals were forming on the edges of the mirror, creeping toward the center slowly. He breathed out, and a cloud of fog filled the space and evaporated against the mirror.
A half lit idea formed in his mind, and he stripped before stepping into the shower. The lukewarm water treated him to a clear mind as he formulated his plan.
He finished his shower and stepped out to dry, dress, and finish his coffee.
The mirror was cleared of frost as he left.
