Nic glanced at her attire more than once, but Wendy sucked it up and embraced the cold weather without complaining.

Their steps echoed as they walked along the porch as they began their adventure.

“Do you know how much land he has?” Wendy asked, staring out over the ledge to the woods beyond.

Despite her dislike of Griffith, even she had to admit it was impressive to keep up all this land.

The chickens squawked in the background, but she paid more attention to the care the alpha had taken to cover the plants that ran along the porch, protecting them from winter.

Leaves crunched under her feet as Nic led her off the porch and around back. Here they found the fire—

Where Griffith had kissed Nic.

“So were you spying on us last night?” Nic asked.

His smile stopped her from being embarrassed. Obviously, he didn’t mind or he wouldn’t have asked.

“I didn’t mean to. I got really hot while you were gone so I cracked the window. Your voices were really loud, you know, considering everything else is quiet.” Her cheeks blushed. “When you both stopped talking I got curious.” Nic arched a brow at that, and she lifted her hands in a show of innocence. “Listen, I was committed, okay? I’d already heard everything up to that point, so I had to hear the end. You couldn’t leave me on a cliffhanger like that.”

She’d sat up and spied out the window, and in the glow of the fire she’d been able to make out Griffith boxing Nic in against the bench, and locking their lips together.

It had been kind of… Okay fine, it was kind of hot how Griffith had towered over Nic. So what if it had gotten her a little hot and bothered? That didn’t mean anything.

She could be sexually attracted to her sworn enemy.

The villains were always hot, weren’t they?

“So yeah I was spying, technically. But it was an accident.”

“Uh-huh,” Nic hummed and crossed his hands behind his back. His lips were curled in a smile as he walked alongside her.

Behind the house were the chickens, and their clucks crescendoed as they neared.

Wendy grinned as she watched them peck around and bump into each other.

“I’ve always thought chickens were cute. Look at their little faces!” she hissed in excitement. She pointed, and her finger led to a pair of chickens.

One was trying to peck at something on the ground, and the other would get in the way every time. Eventually, the first chicken pecked at the second, and Wendy laughed.

“Look, it’s like these two are bickering,” she pointed out.

Nic chuckled. “Remind you of anyone?”

Wendy’s grin brightened. “What do you think Arlo and Tate are doing right now?”

Nic glanced at her. “They are sleeping off their fuck fest from last night.”

Wendy laughed at his answer, ignoring the tightening in her belly, and followed him as he began leading them to a new area. She spied Griffith in the garden, which was really a series of raised garden beds. Everything was… chaotically organized, in a way she was sure only Griffith knew. Some of them were covered in plastic just like the beds out front.

If there was an order to the vegetables, Wendy didn’t see it.

But she could see Griffith tending to his beds, gloves and tools in hand. He was wearing a gray beanie with a flannel, jeans, and boots. The alpha wasn’t even wearing a jacket.

He didn’t turn to them, and Wendy didn’t want to interrupt. Mainly, she wanted this cute walk around the land to be her and Nic’s adventure, not Griffith’s.

Why the fuck was she being so weird about them? If she could roll her eyes at herself, she would. There was no reason why she was being so—

Oh.
