She paused, lips barely touching. She just wanted to hear the way Galen’s breath quickened alongside hers, brushed across her cheek in a hot puff.
With one last peck to his lips, she trailed her kisses along his jaw, nipping and teasing along the way. When she got to his neck, she paused for a split second to check in. “Stoplight system?”
“Ooh are you gonna get mean?” he asked, sounding far too thrilled.
Maeve couldn’t hide her smile. “Aren’t I always?”
His smirk was dangerous, and he knew it. “The stoplight system is fine.”
Satisfied they were on the same page, Maeve lowered her head so she didn’t give into that smirk. She couldn’t reveal how much he affected her, at least not when they were playing. Maeve would never hear the end of it.
She felt powerful with Galen, especially in this moment. Completely nude with him beneath her, yet he was waiting for her signal, waiting to hear what she wanted him to do. How she wanted him to please her.
It sent shivers down her spine, and she nipped what she knew was a sensitive spot for him, and he cursed.
“Long overdue,” he murmured. “This is gonna be so good,” he told her with a gasp.
“If you only knew how much trouble you’re in,” she whispered against his skin.
His fingers tightened around her hips, and she already felt the simmer of arousal in her belly.
“No touching,” she told him.
He hesitated for the smallest second but gave in, letting his hands fall limply to the side. Lifting up, she stared down at him, noting his expression, gauging how he was feeling.
Galen was staring up at her through half-lidded eyes darkened with want. Desire. The same desire she’d grown to recognize as special. Galen reserved it just for her.
Maeve was relieved. Relieved that he still had that same desire for her, relieved she hadn’t found anything during her super official investigation. Relieved Galen was just her Galen, like always.
Hot and perfect and seeming pretty punishable for stressing her out. If he hadn’t been so fucking weird about this promotion the whole time, she wouldn’t have assumed he was a damned werewolf or something.
She rolled her hips on him and felt his hardness between her legs.
“Already?” she teased.
His head snapped up at her taunt, a retort on the tip of his lips. And she couldn’t wait to suck that attitude right out of him.
She slid down the bed, clawing her fingers and gently dragging them down his chest over his shirt. He snapped his mouth shut at her movements, fingers twitching against the sheet in anticipation.
“We’ll have to make sure you can last, I’m not looking for a quickie here.”
He groaned, thumping his head back down to the bed. But when her fingers went to his belt, he was lifting his hips and shuffling to help her get them down his legs. Then all she had to do was pluck at his shirt before he leaned up to pull it over his head.
Only when he was lying still again did she let her gaze finally drop, found him hard and straining, slickness already glistening on the tip.
“Prop yourself up, you need a better view,” Maeve directed.
Galen grabbed one of her pillows and tossed it beneath his head.
Now when she lowered herself slowly, Maeve could meet the heat in his gaze as she tasted the tip of him. She almost hated to admit it, but Galen tasted oddly better than any other guy she’d ever been with. Even though they’d been together for a year, she still couldn’t quite figure out why, but holy shit did it make torturing him with her tongue a hell of a lot more fun.
And oh was she going to torture him. For stressing her out. For being weird. For bringing the puppies home.
The puppies who were being blissfully quiet in the living room. No barking, no yipping. Peace.
She sighed, her breath warm against his head.
“Hair,” she said absently. Galen gathered her hair in one hand and held it out of her way, giving himself a better view in the process. Just like she wanted.
