Maeve didn’t want to see him. Not now. Not before she could… process. But like hell was she hanging around waiting for Galen to fucking sacrifice her or something!

Without giving herself any time to talk herself out of the decision, she pulled open one of the drawers below her and unveiled the doggy treats.

Taking a handful, she lowered her hand low enough to let the pups sniff.

Their excitement tripled, little barks echoing around the kitchen as she teased them.

“Go get ‘em!” she said, throwing the treats into the living room.

The pups rushed after them, and she heard the thumps as they raced too fast and skid across the hardwood floor.

They were still acting like dumb little puppies, even if they were demon dogs.

She jumped from the island and sprinted through the kitchen archway, past the couch and to the bedroom. Slamming the door, she twisted the lock before turning to face the room.

Her stomach churned as she looked at the bed, the sheets still mussed from their sleep. And other activities. But the ache between her legs was reminder enough.

She lifted a hand to her lips in realization.

The shadows. It hadn’t been a trick of light. The wings were Galen’s. And the horns.

“How did I get myself into this?” she asked.

Stop it. Pack now. Questions later.

Maeve listened to her internal voice for once and tore open the closet door, grabbing her duffle from the top shelf.

She scooped as many clothes as she needed into the bag. It only took moments for her to race around the room and collect the few things she would need.

What the actual fuck?

Tears welled as she reduced her entire life to a single bag and zipped it closed.

This was her apartment. Her furniture. Her home.

A home she’d decided to share with Galen. But he wasn’t even…

She shook her head. She didn’t remember demons being included in mythical creatures that actually exist. Vampires and werewolves, fairies and whatnot. But demons?

The rips… the weird hours and the mysterious boss and the wings. She couldn’t explain those away.

“Is he the devil?” she whispered. “My boyfriend is the fucking devil!”

Grabbing her bag, she grit her teeth as she faced the door. All she had to do was get past the dogs, get in her car, and drive.

Where was she going? She had no idea, but away was sounding pretty damn good.

No one would ever believe her if she tried to tell them. And by the time she did get someone to listen, Galen would probably be long gone. Or worse, it would piss him off and he’d have to kill her for telling his secret.

Her best bet would be to leave. Possibly the city.

Galen knew everything about her. Her friends, her family, her favorite places. He would know where to look to find her if he wanted to.

If.

Why would a demon want to date a human? Was it some kind of sacrificial thing?

She wasn’t even a virgin!
