Maeve. Now is now the time, you horny goblin.

With a chuckle, she met his gaze. “Put your stuff where it belongs. Dirty clothes in the hamper, not beside it. Dishes in the sink. Snacks back in the cabinet. I like my counters without clutter.”

Galen winced. “I’m really bad at that, I’m sorry. I took care of my shit at home, but I guess it’s not fair of me to expect you to just because you’re… here. I’ll make more of an effort from now on, I promise.”

Cute little snarls and innocent growls sounded from the living room. When had they even run off?

Heart warming at the sounds, Maeve found the source of the playful grunts and whines as she leaned over the back of the couch to find the puppies all tussling between the coffee table and the couch.

All three of them were black, with the most adorable pink dotted noses. Again, how did she tell them apart?

“They are cute, aren’t they?” Galen teased.

Maeve sighed as one flopped over onto… his back, pink little belly displayed as his brothers hopped on top of him and chewed on his ears and feet with playful nips.

“Unfortunately, they are. But if you don’t get the promotion after this…” She sucked in a deep breath. “I will personally pay him a visit.”

He began to chuckle, his lips curling into another one of her favorite smiles. “That’s why you’re perfect for me. Willing to take your rage out on anyone who needs it.”

Galen reached out a hand and pulled her toward him, wrapping her in his arms. He smelled warm and spicy, delicious.

“Someone’s got to,” she mumbled into his shirt.

He started chuckling, chest shaking against her, and she pulled back, ready to be insulted and lean into him. “Sorry, sorry, bad timing,” he apologized. “But I was just remembering, when I grabbed you off that guy… you just, you deactivated like a cat or something.” He laughed again, the sound deep and rumbly, and yet it sent chills dancing across her skin, and how dare he possess such dichotomy?

What else was Maeve supposed to do but laugh with him, reliving the moment all over again.

Their giggles subsided and she stared up at him, remembering how he’d been a perfect gentleman the entire evening until she’d invited him in. Then, of course, he’d fucked her ten ways to Sunday and, well, she couldn’t let him go after that.

“You know, if you didn’t have three puppies to figure out how to keep from causing mayhem, maybe I’d let you apologize a little more… physically.”

His expression was absolutely crestfallen when she pulled away.

With an evil little grin, she pecked him on the lips and wished them all a good night before she retreated to her puppy free room and crawled between the sheets.

Wakefulness came to her slowly. It crept along her senses and tickled her just enough for Maeve to blink her eyes open.

Galen was warm beside her, his breaths steady and even.

She yawned. Why the hell was she awake at…

Glancing at the clock, she blinked her blurry vision into focus, finding an ungodly three-fifteen awaiting her.

With a quiet sigh, she let her head relax back on the pillow and glanced around the dark room.

A shuffle of nails across the hardwood floor startled her, and she sat up—

And promptly froze.

By the door to the bedroom were three matching pairs of... red, glowing eyes staring in her direction.

Well… at least they weren’t chewing on her curtains.

Eyes wide, sure she was still dreaming, she lay back down and stared at the ceiling.

What the fuck?

She shuffled closer to Galen in the bed, seeking his warmth for comfort. He mumbled something and rolled over, making room for her to snuggle up.
