“Likely dirty thoughts.”

“I’m not joking, Aubrey.”

Her smile slipped. It wasn’t that I wanted to scare her, but I wanted her to know this was real. Whether she believed it or not, I could hurt her. I didn’t want something to happen because she didn’t understand how bad this was.

She grabbed the door and slowly shut it. She leaned against it for a moment before she took a step further into the room. I flattened my back against the wall, feeling my nerves tense up.

“Aubrey, what are you doing?”

“Proving a point.”

“Let’s not.”

She took another step in, and I knew I could reach her with the chains.

“Aubrey, stop.”

“Klaus, I know you aren’t going to hurt me.”

“You don’t know that! You don’t know what I could do. What goes through my head.”

“You haven’t done anything.”

“Because I’m here. But that doesn’t stop my head from thinking about everything else.”

She took another step, just standing at the edge of the bed. “Tell me.”

I frowned. “You want me to tell you the thoughts?”

She nodded. “I’ve always believed saying things out loud helps the mind catch up. So, tell me.”

I couldn’t. I didn’t want to put the words out there.

“Fine, I’ll talk. I spoke with Riley and Troy. And they told me what goes through heads when you’re in this state. You think of murdering people, dark scenarios. But you don’t act them out.”

“I’ve thought of raping you, Aubrey.” It came out like a cold bath fell over me. “Over and over. Mix that with smearing your blood all over the floor. That’s what goes through my head.”

She frowned. “But you haven’t. You haven’t done anything to me, Klaus.”

“Because I’m locked up.”

“No, because you wouldn’t. You haven’t gotten off that bed. You haven’t even come near me, and you could have tried. But you haven’t.”

She placed her knees on the bed. “I know you have dark thoughts and that you’re not entirely yourself. But you are still Klaus. You still have control, and you’re not going to hurt me.”

I ground my teeth together, taking her in. Her scent clouded my senses, and her eyes softened. She gave me a gentle smile as she sat down. “See, I’m within arm’s reach of you.”

I watched as she placed her hands on her lap, rubbing her fingers together. She tilted her head, and her hair fell to the side. I took in her neck and the way her skin looked so smooth.

I reached a hand out, curling a strand of hair around my finger. She smiled, pulling a hand up and placing it around mine. “I’ve missed you.”

I stared into her eyes, watching the way her eyes looked at me longingly. I ached to hold her, to feel her skin against mine again. It was wrong because so much could happen. Chaining myself up was the best and right decision for us.

Her fingers were soft, and her other hand reached up, placing against my chest. She moved it further up, running her hand over my neck. Her fingers ran over my chin and grazed across my lips.

I watched her shoulders relax, and I reached out, tugging her into my lap. Her body pressed against mine, and I couldn’t fight it. I held her close and kissed her. Her lips were rough, her mouth morphing into mine.

She panted as I flipped her, pinning her against the bed. I grabbed at her jeans, pulling them off. She grabbed at my shirt, her fingers pulling at the fabric.
