I swallowed, curling my hands into fists. “You’re not you. Not anymore.”

He smirked. “So, the little witch learned a little magic, and suddenly she knows everything? Is that how it is? Don’t worry, I’ll beat that confidence right out of you.” He moved further into the room, and I backed up toward the cauldron. My heel hit the metal. It felt hot against my shoes.

“I’m warning you, Mike.”

He stepped even further in, his shadow crowding over me. He kept that smile on his face, and my stomach dropped knowing I had nowhere I could move.

He grabbed me, and his hands wrapped around my neck. I screamed, pulling my hands up, trying to pry his fingers off, but they only tightened. My legs smacked into the cauldron. I felt him pushing me back, and my nails dug into his skin as I gasped for air. My lungs screamed for oxygen, and my throat felt like it was being crushed.

I could feel my nails ripping at his skin, his face holding no emotion now, no sign he even felt what I was doing. “Then I guess I don’t need you.”

I felt dizzy; my vision started to blur. I kicked hard, trying to break free. His fingers turned harder, and I felt too much pressure on my neck. If I didn’t get him to let go, I was going to pass out. I moved my hands up, clawing at his face now.

I watched as his body stiffened and his eyes shifted. They lost their color, and suddenly, he didn’t look so alive anymore. I watched as his fingers let go, and the magic that had been in him dissolved. Mike suddenly looked dead as he fell backward. I was doing the same. I went into the cauldron, the water sucking me down. I gasped for air, but sucked in water. A giggle filled my ears. “I don’t need him anymore now that I have you. Everything went dark.

Chapter 23 - Klaus

I stared at the door, counting the wood grooves. I was at two hundred and nine before a voice outside broke the silence.

“How is he doing?”

“No changes,” someone responded. “It’s sad. He had so much potential, and now he’s locked up, slowly losing his mind.”

I ground my teeth together, hating that there was nothing I could do. I had been working my ass off to prove I was the best for the role. I earned the title of Alpha. I was doing everything that I could, and it still wasn’t enough.

I turned away from the door, needing to move. I couldn’t stay seated anymore. I had all of this energy, and I needed to get it out. I started to pace. If I moved, maybe that would help keep my anger under control. I could only walk half the span of the room. The chain was pulling at my legs, which only pissed me off even more.

I felt like I was losing my sanity. It had been days since I’d been in here, but it felt so much longer. The hours blurred together into a never-ending stretch.

I wanted Aubrey. I wanted to apologize for earlier and tell her that I didn’t mean it. I just wanted to keep her safe. I used to be the one protecting her, and now I was what she needed protection from.

If you would stop fighting, you’d feel better. Doesn’t she deserve your embrace? If you get yourself free, you could go to her. You could have her.

I shook my head. I had to stay in here and keep myself calm. Because if I got out, who knows the damage I could do. There were few people who could stop me.

I went back to counting the grooves in the door. But my mind was slipping.

You want her.

Two hundred and twenty-one, two hundred and twenty-three.

If you find her, you could tell her. You could tell her everything.

Two hundred and twenty-four

You could tell her you love her. She might even love you back.

Two hundred and twenty-five.

You could have her every way you want. Isn’t that what you want? To have her? To sink yourself into her?

No! No, I couldn’t.

You could kiss her and hold her. You could squeeze her in your arms.

Stop it! Stop it!

You could make love to her and listen to her come apart on your dick. You could have her like before and never have to let go. Just get up and take what you deserve, because you’ve earned her.
