“I didn’t want to disturb…” She trailed off.

“You never disturb.”

“Um, can I ask a favor?”

“Anything.”

“Mom was thinking of coming out this weekend. There is a craft sale at the town center on Saturday we were going to go to. Would you mind if she came out and spent the night?”

“Cinnamon, we’ve discussed this. It’s your home too.”

“I’ll sleep on the sofa, and she’ll—”

I cut her off. “Does your mom know about us?”

“Yes.”

“Then you’ll sleep with me, where you’ve been the last few nights. Not the sofa. Your mom can have the guest room.”

“You mean my room.”

I glanced behind her, but no one was looking our way. I pulled her close and kissed her. “I think of my room as our room now, so call it whatever you want. But you sleep with me. Got it?”

“Okay.”

“There’s a local band playing at Zeke’s on Saturday. Maybe we could go and have a couple drinks? Would your mom enjoy that?”

“She’d love it.”

“Great. We’ll go and have dinner, then listen to some music.” I pulled her closer. “Maybe do a little dancing.”

“I would love that.”

“Then we’ll do it.”

“Okay, I’ll let Mom know. I have to get back to the station.”

I nuzzled her cheek. “Thank you. And for the record, Hannah? I love it when you come see me. Never hesitate, okay?”

She smiled and cupped my cheek, pressing a fast kiss to my mouth. “Okay.”

I watched her leave, thinking how hot she looked in her uniform. I wondered if she would be willing to play cops and robbers with me. I’d steal her clothes, and she could handcuff me. I might like that game. I had to shake my head to clear it and get back to work. I sat down, pulling the burger from the bag and taking a bite. I chewed and swallowed, enjoying the tasty lunch.

Dom walked in, grinning. “Your girl is looking after you, I see.”

“She is.”

“There’s a part I need in Townshead. Anyone available to pick it up?”

I took another bite of burger. “Townshead?”

“It’s back-ordered everywhere. Joe has one in stock he is willing to give me until we get one in to replace it. But he’s alone today. I’m booked solid.”

I glanced at the schedule. “Everyone is. Milt is in the opposite direction today, so he won’t make it up to Townshead.” I rubbed my chin. “I could go if Charly could look after the office for a couple of hours.”

“Send a courier.”

“That’ll cost an arm and a leg.”
