CHAPTER ONE

Rachel

"There's no easy way to say this, Miss Jenson," the doctor said as he looked up from his clipboard. "You've suffered a miscarriage." My whole world shattered into a million pieces as I stared down at my lap, absorbing the information the doctor had just given me.

After three months of carrying my first child, I had miscarried. I would never see the first smile of that sweet child as they opened their eyes for the first time in this world. I would never know if the child would grow up and be like their father, the evil man who sat next to me while the doctor gave this heart-wrenching news. It was all his fault. He had come home drunk once again, and, in his drunken rage, he shoved me down the stairs, causing me to lose the baby.

Victor hadn't always been violent and abusive. When we first met three years ago, he was a charming man with a dream and a fortune to go with it. He took care of me financially, and I took care of him sexually. That was the deal. However, the world's worries took their toll on him. He resorted to the bitter taste of whiskey rather than my love and care. I offered to help out more, but his pride kept him from accepting my help, and it took an even more significant toll on him than it had initially. Now, he was reduced to the gruff husk of a man he was today.

"Mr. Zandoff, we do have a few questions to ask you, if you don't mind stepping out of the room for a moment," the doctor continued as he turned his attention to Victor. "I think it would be best to give Miss Jenson a chance to adjust to the news." Victor nodded and rose to his feet.

"Are you going to be okay here by yourself?" he asked, and I nodded.

"I'll be fine," I told him reassuringly. "You should go." He nodded and made his way out of the room, leaving me alone with the nurse. As soon as he was gone and the door shut behind them, she turned to look at me.

"Miss Jenson, I have a few questions to ask you, and if for any reason you feel that you cannot answer honestly, please let me know," the nurse told me as she smiled reassuringly at me. I frowned a little as she looked down at her clipboard. "How exactly did you fall down the stairs?" I frowned and glanced nervously at the door.

"I tripped while going to my room," I said hesitantly, more confused by her question than by the response I had. She frowned at me.

"You tripped, ma'am?" she asked, and I nodded. "Did Mr. Zandoff have anything to do with you tripping and falling down the stairs?" I frowned.

"Excuse me?" I asked, my heart racing in my chest.

If Victor were being asked the same questions outside, he would be in a foul mood when we got home, and I was still in so much pain that I couldn't risk another argument. The neighbors had already called the cops on us today, and that was what had set him off in the first place. If they pissed him off anymore, who knew what Victor would do next.

I stopped and started to wonder what I was protecting him for. After all, he promised to take care of me, and he had hurt me. That's not what Daddies do, and if any of my Little friends found out the truth about Victor mistreating me, the entire Daddy community would be out for blood. Even if I was Victor's Little, no one allowed abusive relationships. It simply wasn't done. It was better to have this settled legally rather than by the members of the Daddy community. I sighed and shook my head.

"He was drunk," I warned the nurse as tears welled in my eyes. It was painful for me to betray his trust, but it was for our safety. "He's been in a bad mood ever since work took a turn for the worse, and the neighbors have had to call the cops several times already. If he finds out I said anything, he'll….” The nurse sighed and shook her head at me.

"It's okay, I understand completely," she said as she came over and hugged me, careful not to bump into the IV they had placed in my arm. "Is there anyone we can call for you? A safe place you can go?" I shrugged.

"I only have my sister," I told her, "but she lives in Chicago. I don't know if she'd be able to come to get me." The nurse nodded.

"Would you like to speak to her?" she asked, and I nodded. She immediately pulled out her cell phone and handed it to me. "I'll call for security and have Mr. Zandoff removed from the hospital immediately for your safety. In the meantime, I'll speak with the doctor about keeping you here overnight and under constant surveillance." She patted me reassuringly on the head. "Take all the time you need." I nodded and watched her leave the room.

Once she was gone, I stared at her cell phone, terrified of everything that was happening. I knew I wasn't going to be able to stay here in New York now that I had chosen that path, but I also felt like I had already set myself up to fail before I could even escape. Ever since Stephanie got the promotion, she rarely spoke to me anymore. Would she even answer the phone? I took a deep breath and shook my head. I quickly dialed her office number, praying she was still at work. The phone answered on the third ring.

"Hello, thank you for calling Benedict and Lanberger Realty and Property Management," answered the all too familiar voice of my sister. "This is Stephanie. How can I help you?" I burst into tears, grateful I had been able to reach her.

"Steph," I sobbed into the phone like a child, wishing for all this to be a dream. "It's me. I'm sorry to call you while you're at work, but I need your help." Stephanie didn't hesitate even for a second.

"What's wrong?" she asked. "Are you okay? Whose number is this? How are you calling me?" I was about to answer when I heard Victor yelling outside.

"This is ridiculous!" he shouted from beyond the door. "I demand to see her immediately!" There was a shuffling noise, followed by the sound of a taser going off, and I shook my head.

"I need to get out of New York," I told her. "Can you help me?" She went silent for a minute before responding.

"Give me the number you're calling from, and I'll call it back in about an hour," she told me. "I have some arrangements to make."

CHAPTER TWO

Tristan

"So, you want me to take over the office for how long?" I asked as I stared at Xavier. Xavier shrugged as he packed his duffel bag.

"I don't know," he admitted as he zipped up the bag. "We should be leaving right away, but I need to figure out exactly what is going on before I promise anything." I frowned at him.

"Remind me why you're taking this very sudden trip to New York again?" I asked, and he shook his head.
