"You can go ahead and take a seat," he informed me. "If I had known that they were going to provide me with an assistant today, I would have had some work for you." I sat down obediently and looked around the room, realizing that it looked like the principal and school counselor's office from school. Realizing I had nothing to do, he looked back up at me. "So, what do you like to do?" The attempt at small talk was extremely out of character for him, and I continued to grow confused by his actions as I thought for a moment.

"I like to read," I guessed after thinking for a moment. Small talk with a grown up was always uncomfortable, and I found it hard to do so. He smiled and put back down his pen.

"Is that so?" he asked. "What do you like to read?" For some reason, his kind expression despite his intimidating build was slowly, yet surely, putting me at ease, and I smiled at him.

"I like the classics," I told him. "A Little Princess, Nancy Drew, Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter…" The more I listed off the titles, the more his smile grew, and I felt a small wetness grow in my panties.

What was going on with me? One second, I was absolutely terrified of him, and, the next, I was feeling aroused? Of course, I never I had never done anything like that in my life. Thanks to years of being alone at school and living with my grandparents, I never actually became attracted to anyone that way. No one except the occasional actor. I wouldn't even know where to begin on showing interest in someone like Ashton even if the boundaries of the professional world didn't divide us already. The long we awkwardly sat there, the harder my heart beat in my chest, threatening to break free. After several minutes, he sighed and shook his head, having spent all this time staring at his papers before giving up.

"Look, I feel like we got off on the wrong foot here," he informed me as he folded his hands in front of him, looking like one of my many teachers from high school. "I want to beg your forgiveness for my attitude earlier when I sent you out for coffee. It was entirely uncalled for, and I hope you can forgive me for my rough behavior." Realizing that his awkwardness had come from the way he ordered his coffee, I felt relieved and shook my head reassuringly at him.

"Oh, that?" I asked, waving a dismissive hand at him. "There's no hard feelings. I assumed it was all because Mr. Lanberger was making you nervous." Rather than laughing, he leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms, and I began to wonder if he thought I wasn't taking him seriously.

"I want to make up for my behavior earlier," he informed me. "If you're comfortable with it, I would like to take you out to dinner so that we can get to know each other a little bit better and not have an extremely awkward boss-assistant relationship. No drinks, of course, since you are only eighteen." I had often heard of occasions where bosses would go get drinks or dinner with their employees, so I didn't see anything wrong with it. After thinking it over, I nodded my head.

"That would be nice," I agreed until one minor detail popped into my mind, "but I don't know if I should. I don't currently have a car, so I had to take the bus here. If we don't finish until late, I would have to walk home alone, and I don't know how I would feel about that." He frowned and puffed out his chest, making himself seem bigger and even more masculine than before.

"What kind of boss do you take me for?" he asked as he raised an eyebrow at me. "If you need a ride home, I would be happy to oblige. It's the least I can do for the pleasure of your company." Something about the way he said it made me wonder if his version of "happy" in this case was different from what I expected, but I didn't look too much into it. As soon as he offered, my worries were gone, and I nodded.

"Okay," I agreed. "It's a date then."

CHAPTER SIX

Ashton

The way she called it a date made me wonder if she truly understood the meaning of that statement or if she was quoting a movie, but I didn't care. She had not only forgiven me for my mistake, but she had also agreed to go to dinner with me. I knew that, based on how well she had handled herself with Vicky, I couldn't just leap in and hold her to the fact that she had called it a date. If I wasn't careful, she could get me in trouble for sexual harassment and quid pro quo. Instead, if I truly wanted her to be with me, I had to ease into it, making sure I didn't cross any lines that she didn't want crossed.

Seeing that she had no car or any real work to do all thanks to Lance's last second decision, I let her do whatever she wanted to on her phone, a crappy little device with a cracked screen and a terrible battery life. After seeing the piece of junk, I remembered the brand new laptop I had bought to bring work home with me only to find that I had another laptop at work that Lance had bought for me, which was the exact same model. I had been meaning to return it, but, upon seeing Hannah with her broken phone, I decided that it would be a waste of my time to try to return it. Besides, I could always right it off as office equipment and have her keep it as a work computer if things didn't work out the way I wanted to.

"I almost forgot," I told her as I put the laptop on my desk. "You'll need this." She paused when she saw the computer.

"For work?" she asked, and I nodded.

"A lot of your responsibilities will be sorting through the appointment requests and approving or rescheduling legal consultations here in my office," I explained. "Seeing as you need access to the scheduler I created in order to do so, I like to keep a laptop around just in case. However, with it being Friday, I won't be able to get you signed in until Monday, so, for today, you can use it for whatever you wish. Within reason, of course. I'm okay with movies, ebooks, YouTube, and everything like that while I finish working today, but please no inappropriate sites of any kind. I don't want to look over and see something that isn't suited for the workplace." She narrowed her eyes skeptically at me, as if wondering if this was some sort of trap or test.

"Won't I get in trouble for using office equipment inappropriately?" she asked me, and I shook my head.

"As long as I don't see you doing anything wrong, I honestly don't mind," I informed her. "I bought the computer, and, as long as my appointments are approved and everything, I don't mind you killing time on the computer. Just be sure to get your work done when I give you an assignment." I stopped when my eyes landed on the phone. "I may have to consider a new work phone, too." She slowly looked down at the phone in her hand and shook her head.

"I know it doesn't seem like much, but it does its job," she told me with a gentle smile. "It's a survivor." I chuckled as I looked at her, unable to believe that someone as vicious as her would look so adorable doing so.

"If you're sure," I said as I shook my head. Looking back at the clock, I smiled and saw that it was four in the afternoon. I looked back at the files on my desk, which had gone down a decent amount since I arrived that morning, and decided it was time to call it quits. "I suppose that's enough work for today." Packing up the last of the files so I could go over them at home, I looked at Hannah. "Are you ready to go?" She looked even more confused as she looked up at me.

"You mean it?" she asked, and I nodded.

"Best part about being the in office legal consultant," I began with my most charming smile. "I get to choose my hours." Seeing the confused look on her face, I continued. "Don't worry, you'll get paid for the full day. Meanwhile, I have the perfect place to go for dinner." She grabbed her satchel and the laptop I gave her and followed me out of the office and to my car. As soon as we arrived at the sleek, black SUV, she looked a little relieved as I offered her my hand to help her into the vehicle.

"So, what is the place you had in mind?" she asked innocently as I started the vehicle, and we both buckled up at the same time. As soon as we were ready, I turned to look at her.

"It's one of my personal favorite places to have dinner with clients," I told her. "I actually get to eat for free since my brother owns it." She looked confused, but she didn't say anything the entire ride, which made me wonder if I had scared her.

She looked so sweet and innocent as she sat there in the passenger seat, her eyes wide and full of wonder. As much as I wanted to just take her home and convince her to stay forever, I knew that I still had to ease her into the idea of being with me. Littles as young as her were easily scared off by Daddies like me, especially if we pushed it too far. The last thing I wanted was for her to run off all because I had moved in too quickly. As we pulled up to the restaurant, I smiled at her, and her eyes widened as she stared at the building.

"Your brother owns this place?" she asked in amazement, and I nodded.

"Yep," I told her as I unbuckled my seatbelt. "The Starlight Ranch is the best restaurant in the entire city, so you're in for a real treat." As we got out of the vehicle, I handed the keys to the valet and smiled at Hannah. "Before we go in, I want you to know that there's no limit to what you can order. You can get whatever you want, and it's on my brother and I." She frowned a little as she looked at me.

"Are you sure he won't mind?" she asked, sounding hesitant and skeptical. Realizing that she may try to keep it low, I nodded my head.
