CHAPTER ONE

Lydia

My heart thudded in my chest as I stared at Joyce, who had just told me the craziest and most outrageous tale of biker gangs, and about a huge debt that neither of us could ever hope to repay. I prayed that she was joking. The Barbarians were not forgiving people, and the fact that she still owed twenty thousand dollars seemed like a dark fairytale meant to frighten me. The longer I stared at my sister, the more I realized that she wasn’t joking, and I started to drown in despair.

Joyce shrugged as she popped a potato chip into her mouth. “They offer other ways of repaying the debt, you know,” she continued, her voice strangely calm as she stood in my kitchen, eating my food. “I owed about forty thousand before, but, after six months, I got it down to twenty thousand.” My hopes began to rise, raising my spirits once again.

“How did you do it?” I asked, and her grin sent a cold chill down my spine.

“I fucked the members of the gang for two hundred a round,” she told me, and my heart sank.

Of course she had used her body to pay back her debt. She probably enjoyed it, too. Not me … I had yet to lose my virginity even. The very idea of letting multiple men have their way with me frightened me, but, the more I thought about it, the more I realized I might not have any other way. Joyce had agreed that, if she couldn’t repay the debt herself, they would be allowed to come for me, so that I could pay it for her. I wanted to cry, as I stared at my sister in shock and disbelief.

“I hate you,” I breathed, my anger finally rising to the surface. “I hate you!” Joyce shrugged as she munched away at my bag of chips.

“Considering my past, you’re going to have to find a better insult, dearie,” she told me, her voice annoyingly calm. “You aren’t the first to hate me, and I know you won’t be the last.”

No longer able to control my temper, I snatched the bag of chips from her hands. “Get out of my apartment!” I ordered. “Get out and never come back. If I ever see your face again, I swear that I’ll send you right back to the Barbarians, so they can finish you off!”

She threw her head back and laughed, loud and mockingly.

“Don’t threaten me with a good time,” she replied. “Honestly, it sucks for me more than it sucks for you. Those men really know how to use their cocks.” Disgust and betrayal bubbled to the surface again and I snatched her by the hair and threw her out the front door, slamming the door in her face before locking it.

As soon as I was alone in my apartment, I made my way over to the couch and took a seat, contemplating my options. As far as I knew, the Barbarians didn’t know where I lived, so I still had time to escape. I didn’t have much money, but I knew I could run away to somewhere far beyond their reaches. I could go to New York City or Chicago. All I had to do was get out of state and hide out. It seemed like a logical plan. I would worry about work and money as soon as I was out of their reach.

I had just leapt to my feet and started towards the bedroom, when I heard a knock on the door. Fear immediately gripped my chest and I wondered if it was the Barbarians. Realizing that it was too soon for them to have tracked me down, I then remembered that the maintenance man was supposed to come by to help fix the sink, which was leaking water all over the kitchen. I was too short to reach the peep hole, so I cracked the door open and found myself face to face with three, tall, muscular men. They were dressed in grubby T-shirts and faded jeans, so it was impossible to tell if they were new to the maintenance staff or not.

“Are you Lydia Stoker?” the man in the middle asked.

“Yes,” I replied reluctantly. “Are you here about the sink?” The men exchanged looks, and the middle man continued.

“We’re here on behalf of your sister, Joyce Stoker,” he informed me, and my heart sank in my chest. “We’re here to tell you that Chase from the Barbarians has requested your presence to discuss the debt she still owes us all.”

Immediately, my instincts took over, and I tried to close the door. To my horror, the man on the left caught the door before I could pull it shut, and all three men started to laugh at my feeble efforts to escape them.

“It’s better not to fight us. Come quietly, and Chase may be merciful.”

Tears streamed down my face as I backed away from him. “Please, this has nothing to do with me,” I pleaded, desperately backing away as the men entered my tiny apartment. “Joyce owes you the debt, not me. You should collect it from her.”

The man shrugged as he placed a gentle hand on my shoulder, holding me in place.

“I’m sorry,” he told me, his voice sounding genuinely sympathetic to my situation. “Please don’t fight us. Chase won’t be as merciful if you do.”

Realizing I had no choice, I sighed and nodded in agreement.

“Very well,” I agreed. “I’ll come and talk to him.”

He motioned towards the door. “Ladies first,” he said, and I did the walk of shame out of my apartment escorted by all three men, wondering if this man named Chase actually knew the meaning of mercy.

CHAPTER TWO

Chase

My day was already dreadfully boring, and it had only just begun. I felt jealous of Jagger and Adam, both of whom had women at home to satiate their most primal of needs as well as motivate them through the day. I yearned for the touch of a woman, but I didn’t want just any woman. The women around the compound were here to sell themselves. They allowed any and all of the men to have their way with them just to pay off their debts. I didn’t like the idea of sharing a woman with the men on the compound. I wanted one who belonged to me and me alone. If Adam hadn’t stolen Sarah’s heart, I would have found a way to make her mine. Now, I was back at ground zero.

“Enter,” I called from my desk when I heard the knock on my door. Immediately, Jagger poked his head into the office and smiled at me.

"Lydia Stoker is here to see you, as you requested," he informed me.
