"I'm sorry, Oscar," whined one of the women within earshot, and I turned to look at the upcoming drama that was about to unfold before me. "I just like Alec more than you. He's not that bad once you get to know him." The man, a mountain in the shape of a human with a chiselled face and the body of a god, turned to look at the woman.
"It's not Alec I have a problem with, Jasmine," he argued back, his voice deep and mysterious like a dark angel. "You're the one who cheated on me. You could have been an adult about it and ended it with me, but you didn't. Instead, you cheated on me and lost both of us. That's not my fault." The woman stomped angrily after the man, who looked flustered as well as upset.
Never get involved in a couple's fight. I learned in high school pretty quickly that getting involved in something like that was the surest way to ruin your life and open up a world of drama no one could possibly be ready for. However, watching the tiny woman chase after a man who looked as though he could be her parent piqued my interest, and I found myself engrossed in the drama occuring before me.
"Please, just take me back," the woman begged, and the man shook his head.
"Sorry, but I found someone else," he confessed to her, and my heart sank as I realized he might actually be lying to her. Not seeming to believe him, the woman crossed her arms and stared him down with a venomous look on her face.
"Oh yeah?" she challenged, making me hate her all the more. "Who?" It was at that second that the man noticed me and motioned for me to come to his aid. Realizing I was his chance to escape his crazy, cheating ex, I rose to my feet, gathered my shoes, and started towards him.
"There you are, babe," I remarked as I closed the distance between us. "I've been waiting here for you forever." Seeing the woman's expression, I smiled politely and offered my hand to her. "Hi there. I'm Charity." The woman narrowed her eyes suspiciously at me as she turned to look at the man.
"Oscar?" she asked, and the man linked his arm with mine.
"Yep," he said, holding me close to him, his panicked expression gone as he seemed to calm down. "This is Charity, my new girlfriend. That stupid frat boy can keep you. I have someone even better." She groaned in annoyance as she turned to look me up and down.
"Wow, you really downgraded," she commented as she looked back at him. "The least you could have done was pick someone who didn't look like they shop out of the discount bin of Walmart." Feeling a little catty from her reaction, I raised an eyebrow at her.
"At least my dress came from a real designer," I retorted, making her grow bright red in anger. "That dress is obviously a Chinese knockoff." Lost for words and redder than a tomato, the woman sneered at the two of us.
"Have fun with my leftovers," she told me before casting one final venomous look at the man. "If you ever want a real woman, you know where to find me." He tilted his head at her in confusion.
"At a frat house with every guy at the college?" he asked. As we burst out in laughter, she marched away angrily, mumbling under her breath and calling us every name under the sun. As soon as she was gone, the man turned to look at me.
"Thanks for your help," he said, sounding relieved as he spoke. "Any longer, and she might have gone full psycho on me." Waving a dismissive hand at him, I shook my head.
"I'm just glad I didn't make things worse for you," I told him with a gentle smile. "That crazy weirdo was really hounding you." Looking a bit sheepish, he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Well, can I get you a drink?" he offered. "To show my thanks?" After considering this, I shrugged.
"Why not?" I finally decided. "It's my first time at a wedding like this. Who knows? Maybe I'll like it here…"
CHAPTER FOUR
Oscar
The last thing I had expected when I showed up for Xavier and Stephanie's wedding was for Jasmine to come up and try to convince me to take her back. While part of me wanted to, I was still hurt by the fact that she had betrayed me by cheating on me with Alec. However, now that she had shown him her true colors and slept with one of his frat brothers, he had dumped her, and she had come running back to me.
It was at that point when I fully realized that Auntie Isabella had been right all along, and Jasmine was no good for me. She was a cheater and always would be. However, she had not taken kindly to the news that I was rejecting her.
Desperate to shut Jasmine up before she ruined Xavier and Stephanie's special day, I had walked out of the party and gone looking for an excuse to get out of it. The only other person around was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, and she was sitting in the grass, wearing the most beautiful light blue dress that complimented her pale skin and blonde hair perfectly. After motioning to get her attention, I was amazed when she not only got up to come to my aid, but she had played along perfectly with the scenario I was painting for Jasmine. Even though Jasmine had been absolutely terrible to the woman, she stood by me, facing off like a true Little, and I was hooked.
Even though Jasmine was gone, I quickly realized that I couldn't let this new Little escape me. Her beautiful smile and quick wit had won me over, and I just had to try to close the deal, even if she wasn't exactly accustomed to the Little lifestyle. As we returned to the party, I found myself lost in her charm.
"So, is your name really Charity?" I asked as we made our way over to the bar. Blushing, the woman nodded and brushed some loose strands of hair from her face.
"Yes," she confessed. "Charity Walton." She offered me her tiny, delicate hand to shake, and I smiled as I accepted it.
"It's nice to meet you, Charity," I told her, trying to make sure we both could hear each other over the loud music and constant chatter of the people around us. "I'm Oscar Jefferson." As we shook hands, Charity looked back at the party.
"Not going to lie, I didn't know things like this actually existed," she admitted as she looked at the Daddies and Littles swaying around on the dance floor. "This kink, that is. I heard of it, but I never knew." Genuinely curious about her feelings towards our lifestyle, I raised an eyebrow at her.
"Is it too much?" I asked, and she shook her head as she turned to look back at me.
"If more people looked like you, I think every girl would want to grow up to be a Little," she informed me. "I can't blame your ex for wanting you back." Wincing, I rubbed the back of my neck and shook my head.
"Forget about her," I told Charity, hoping to change the subject. "Anyways, what do you do for a living?" She winced as she looked down at the table cloth as she played with the stem of the glass that held her water.
